Where to find rescue kittens near Stoke-on-Trent
The count under the short answer is live: every kitten listed with us in and around Stoke-on-Trent, each linked to its rescue. Kittens come and go fast, so check the kittens page often, or set up an alert there.
Cheadle & District Animal Welfare Society
A volunteer charity set up in 1968 for the stray and abandoned cats and dogs of Cheadle and the Staffordshire Moorlands. Its cats and kittens live with volunteer fosterers or in private catteries, not at a centre. When we checked its cats page on 3 November 2026 it had four kitten posts, one of them a pair and one kitten already reserved, among its adult cats. Its cats are on our Cheadle page.
Betley Cat Rescue
Betley Cat Rescue cares mostly for stray and feral cats, neutering and healing them, and some of its cats are mothers taken in from the alleyways. That means kittens born outside, who may need time and patience to get used to people. Visits are by appointment only.
Further out, and Cats Protection
Ashbourne Animal Welfare at The Ark in Ashbourne, about 17 miles east, and the cat rescues around Northwich also list cats near Stoke. Cats Protection's Stoke & Newcastle branch rehomes kittens too; we don't list its cats, so search its own site.
How to adopt a kitten around Stoke-on-Trent
Every rescue here works by appointment, and the small ones run on volunteers' free time, so be patient if a reply takes a day or two.
- Pick a kitten, or two. Our kittens page and bonded pairs page show who is waiting. Some kittens are listed as pairs, to go home together.
- Get in touch. Cheadle takes email or a call to its cat line; Betley uses the form on its website; Ashbourne Animal Welfare asks for its cat enquiry form.
- Home check and references. Cheadle asks every adopter for a home check and vet references, and some animals need more than one visit before they go home.
- Visit by appointment. None of these rescues has open viewing: a fosterer or the cattery shows you the kitten at a time you agree.
- Plan neutering. A kitten too young to be neutered goes home with a plan for it: Ashbourne gives a voucher, and the others will tell you what they expect.
What a rescue kitten costs around Stoke-on-Trent
Ashbourne Animal Welfare asks £110 for a kitten under 6 months, or £190 for two together. Its kittens are health checked, microchipped, vaccinated, flea and worm treated and come with 4 weeks' Petplan cover if eligible; one too young to neuter comes with a voucher, £50 for a female and £40 for a male, so there may be a balance to pay at the vet.
Windyway Animal Rescue at Macclesfield, about 16 miles north, asks £80 for a vaccinated kitten or £150 for a bonded pair, and Cats Protection's Stoke & Newcastle branch £105 for a kitten under 6 months. Cheadle asks for a donation and Betley publishes no fee: ask them.
If you have been searching "kittens for sale Stoke-on-Trent"
A rescue kitten is adopted, not sold: you pay the rescue its fee, and the kitten comes vaccinated and microchipped, neutered or with neutering arranged. Every kitten on our Stoke kittens page is adopted that way, through its rescue.
If you buy instead, in England a kitten must be microchipped before it is 20 weeks old. Meet the kitten with its mother at home, never pay a deposit for one you haven't seen, and report a suspected scam advert to Report Fraud. A "free" kitten advert has no rescue checks or vet work behind it.
The law in England
Microchipping cats
In England, cats must be microchipped before they are 20 weeks old and registered on a database, a rule in force since 10 June 2024. An owner found without one has 21 days to comply or may be fined up to £500. Free-living cats (farm, feral and community cats) are exempt.
Lucy's Law: buying a kitten
In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that kittens under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.
Questions

Where can I adopt a rescue kitten in Stoke-on-Trent?
Cheadle & District Animal Welfare Society fosters kittens around Cheadle, about 7 miles east, and Betley Cat Rescue, about 10 miles west, takes in strays and their kittens; both list their cats with us. Ashbourne Animal Welfare and Windyway Animal Rescue list kittens further out.
How much is a rescue kitten in Stoke-on-Trent?
Ashbourne Animal Welfare asks £110 for a kitten under 6 months, Windyway Animal Rescue £80 and Cats Protection Stoke & Newcastle £105. Cheadle asks for a donation and Betley publishes no fee.
Are there free kittens in Stoke-on-Trent?
Not from a rescue: every rescue asks a fee or a donation, which pays for vaccinations, a microchip and neutering. A "free" kitten in an advert has had none of that, so check its age, meet it with its mother and see the vet record.
Can I see kittens without an appointment?
No. Betley Cat Rescue sees visitors by appointment only, and Cheadle's kittens live with fosterers or in private catteries, so every visit is booked.
Should I adopt two kittens together?
If the rescue suggests it, yes: some kittens are listed as pairs to go home together. Ashbourne Animal Welfare asks £190 for two kittens and Windyway Animal Rescue £150 for a bonded pair.
Will my rescue kitten be neutered?
If it is old enough. A kitten too young goes home with a plan: Ashbourne Animal Welfare gives a neutering voucher, £50 for a female and £40 for a male. Ask each rescue what it expects.
