Rescue kittens in Kent: where to adopt near Canterbury

Kent searchers type "kittens for sale" far more often than "cat rescue", but East Kent's cat rescues had kittens and young cats waiting on the day we looked. Here is where they were, what a rescue kitten costs, why some rescues prefer to home two together, and what to watch for if you buy from a seller instead.

The short answer

For a kitten near Canterbury, call in at Rhodes Minnis Cat Sanctuary, south of the city, any day in opening hours: it asks £100 a kitten. Rolvenden Cat Rescue had pairs of 3 to 5 months listed with us on 5 November 2026 and prefers to home kittens two together. Our Canterbury kittens page shows who is listed now.

Rescue adoption fees
Each rescue sets its own fee. Battersea charges £130 for a kitten under six months or £225 for a pair of kittens, Cats Protection says you can expect to pay £80 to £120 on average for an adult cat and £100 to £120 for a kitten, varying between its branches, and Blue Cross kittens up to 16 weeks start from £175. Where to find rescue kittens near Canterbury

The count above links every kitten to its rescue. These are the places that had kittens or young cats on 5 November 2026.

Rhodes Minnis Cat Sanctuary, south of Canterbury

Caring for cats since 1970, Rhodes Minnis is open every day, 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm, and needs no appointment, though it suggests phoning to check a cat is still there. Its page showed more cats than any other rescue we list near Canterbury that day, and it says it shows only some of those in its care. Its cats join our Rhodes Minnis page as this guide goes live.

Rolvenden Cat Rescue, near Cranbrook

On the 25-mile edge, Rolvenden had pairs of 3 to 5 months listed with us, one pair already promised. It keeps kittens until 12 to 14 weeks, warns that young ones are "snapped up very quickly", and asks you to email its homing form and book a visit. See our Rolvenden page.

Last Chance Animal Rescue, New Romney

Last Chance's cattery page had Latte and Chai, nervous 4-month-old tabby kittens trapped with their mother, at New Romney; it wants them homed in pairs and not with young children. Its New Romney cats join our Last Chance page as this guide goes live.

Pairs, roads and neutering

Rescues near Canterbury set a few rules for kittens:

  • Two together if you can. Rolvenden prefers to home kittens in pairs, though not always; our bonded pairs page lists pairs near Canterbury.
  • Away from busy roads. Last Chance won't home a cat to a fast or busy road.
  • Neutered by 6 months. TAG Pet Rescue makes this part of its adoption terms.
  • Shy kittens need quiet. Rolvenden's less bold cats need a calm, indoor-only home.

What a rescue kitten comes with

Rolvenden vaccinates every kitten and neuters cats over 5 months, and TAG includes neutering, a microchip and vaccinations in its fee. In England every pet cat must be microchipped by 20 weeks, wherever it comes from. Open to an older cat? Our Canterbury cat rescues guide covers adults.

Searching "kittens for sale" in Canterbury, Ashford or Dover?

No rescue sells its kittens. You apply or call in, the rescue picks a kitten that fits your home, and its fee pays back part of the vet work. None of the kittens on our kittens page is for sale.

If you buy, Lucy's Law (England, from 6 April 2020) bars third-party sellers such as pet shops from selling kittens younger than six months: buy from the breeder who bred it, or adopt. See the kitten with its mother, refuse to pay a deposit before you have, and pass a dubious advert to Report Fraud.

The law in England

Microchipping cats

In England, cats must be microchipped before they are 20 weeks old and registered on a database, a rule in force since 10 June 2024. An owner found without one has 21 days to comply or may be fined up to £500. Free-living cats (farm, feral and community cats) are exempt.

Lucy's Law: buying a kitten

In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that kittens under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.
