The short answer

On 6 November 2026 Suffolk Animal Rescue (head office and cattery at Debenham, about 12 miles from Ipswich) had black and black and white kittens of 8 to 12 weeks, each to go home with a sibling, for a minimum donation of £75 a kitten. Bury's Stray Cat Fund near Bury St Edmunds had a bonded pair, at £170 for two. Our Ipswich kittens page lists what is waiting now.

Rescue adoption fees
Each rescue sets its own fee. Cats Protection says you can expect to pay £80 to £120 on average for an adult cat and £100 to £120 for a kitten, varying between its branches, and Blue Cross kittens up to 16 weeks start from £175. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Where the rescue kittens near Ipswich were

Our Ipswich kittens page shows every young cat listed with us within 25 miles, filled from this update. Behind it, two charities:

Suffolk Animal Rescue, Debenham

Suffolk Animal Rescue specialises in feral cats and runs its head office and cattery at Debenham, with a second cattery at Pettistree. Its cats page had one card for a group of kittens, 8 to 12 weeks old with more nearly ready, rather than a card per kitten, so use its kitten form to ask who is left. It asks you to call before visiting Debenham so someone can show you round.

Bury's Stray Cat Fund, Little Whelnetham

Caring for stray cats since 1976 and at its Friars Orchard sanctuary since 2000, Bury's Stray Cat Fund is about 19 miles from Ipswich. It had a bonded pair of kittens on its meet the cats page that day. Its cats appear on our Ipswich cats pages and on our Bury St Edmunds cats page.

Rules that come with a Suffolk rescue kitten

Read these before you apply:

  • Pairs. All of Suffolk Animal Rescue's kittens that day were to go home with a bonded sibling, so plan for two.
  • Vaccinations. Suffolk Animal Rescue doesn't vaccinate and expects you to arrange it with your vet. Bury's Stray Cat Fund vaccinates at 12 weeks; take a kitten earlier and the jabs are on you.
  • Neutering. Both leave a young kitten's neutering to you, and Bury's Stray Cat Fund says it won't help with the cost.
  • Appointments. Bury's Stray Cat Fund sees adopters on weekdays between 10am and 4pm, by appointment, and has no access for pushchairs or prams.

Shy kittens and ex-feral cats

Many of Suffolk Animal Rescue's adult cats were trapped as ferals and need a quiet start, which its cards describe honestly; its kittens, its card says, are dog, cat and child friendly once given time to settle. It aims to test cats for FIV and FeLV, and the mothers of litters where it can. If an adult suits you better, our Ipswich cats page lists the older cats and pairs as well.

Kittens from Colchester and Bury St Edmunds

From Colchester, Debenham is the longer drive north, and our Colchester cats page starts from the town. From Bury St Edmunds, Bury's Stray Cat Fund is about 4 miles away. The Blue Cross Suffolk centre at Wherstead rehomes cats as well; we don't list them, so look on its own site.

Searching "kittens for sale" in Ipswich, Colchester or Suffolk?

Rescue kittens aren't sold. You apply, the charity matches you, and the fee or donation helps pay for the care already given. Nothing on our kittens page has a price tag: each kitten's rescue handles its adoption.

Buying privately? In England, Lucy's Law (6 April 2020) stops shops and dealers selling kittens under six months, so you buy from the breeder, and every pet cat must be microchipped by 20 weeks. See the kitten with its mother first, and pass any seller who wants money up front to Report Fraud.

The law in England

Microchipping cats

In England, cats must be microchipped before they are 20 weeks old and registered on a database, a rule in force since 10 June 2024. An owner found without one has 21 days to comply or may be fined up to £500. Free-living cats (farm, feral and community cats) are exempt.

Lucy's Law: buying a kitten

In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that kittens under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Can I adopt just one kitten?

Not from Suffolk Animal Rescue's current litters: on 6 November 2026 every kitten was to go home with a bonded sibling. Bury's Stray Cat Fund prices one kitten or two, so ask about the cat you like.

Not from a rescue, which adopts rather than sells. Our Colchester cats page lists rescue cats near the town. Buying privately? Meet the mother too, and make sure the kitten is chipped by 20 weeks, as English law requires.

No rescue near Ipswich gives kittens away; each fee or donation helps cover the vet care. A free kitten advert has had no rescue checks, so ask about its health, its mother and its chip.
