Where to find rescue kittens near Preston and Blackpool

The count under the short answer is live, linking each kitten to its rescue. When we checked on 5 November 2026, the young cats listed with us nearby were mostly pairs and a trio of 5 to 10 months, at Blackpool, around Darwen and in Wigan.

Lancashire Cat Rescue, Penwortham

A volunteer charity working from a home in Penwortham, Lancashire Cat Rescue posts each cat on its own blog. On 5 November 2026 its latest post offered three six-month-old littermates, trapped as a litter at Catterall and needing quiet indoor homes. Phone for an appointment and leave a message if no one answers. Its cats are on our Lancashire Cat Rescue page.

Cats Paws Sanctuary, Blackpool

On its cats page on 5 November 2026, Cats Paws Sanctuary had young pairs and a trio among its listings. It sees adopters by appointment only, and vaccinates every kitten, with a voucher towards the second jab three weeks later and another for neutering at five months. Its cats are on our Cats Paws page.

English Barn Cats Rescue and Woodlands

English Barn Cats Rescue fosters kittens around Darwen, about 11 miles east, homes them in pairs unless you already have pets, and takes applicants within 15 miles of Darwen, so ask from Preston. Its cats are on our English Barn Cats page. Woodlands Animal Sanctuary at Holmeswood, about 10 miles south-west, shows kittens at its cattery by appointment; see our Woodlands page.

Pairs, indoor homes and neutering

The kitten rules near Preston are stricter than many people expect:

  • A single kitten needs company. Woodlands won't home one kitten into a house without another cat, and English Barn Cats Rescue homes kittens in pairs. Our bonded pairs page lists cats that must go together.
  • Indoor homes. Carla Lane Animals in Need at Melling rehomes kittens under six months as lifetime indoor cats, and Lancashire Cat Rescue asks for cats to be kept in at night and encourages indoor kittens.
  • Neutering later. A kitten too young to neuter goes home with a promise or a voucher: about five months at Lancashire Cat Rescue and Cats Paws, and Woodlands gives a money-off voucher for kittens of 9 weeks to 6 months.
  • Waiting after jabs. Woodlands lets no kitten go until 48 hours after its vaccination.

Rescue kittens aren't sold. You apply, the rescue matches you, and its fee goes towards the vet work the kitten has had. Every kitten on our Preston kittens page goes home that way, through its own rescue.

If you buy, a pet kitten in England must be microchipped before it is 20 weeks old, so ask for the chip details. See the kitten with its mother at the seller's home, never send a deposit for one you haven't met, and report an advert that looks like a scam to Report Fraud. The law in England

Microchipping cats

In England, cats must be microchipped before they are 20 weeks old and registered on a database, a rule in force since 10 June 2024. An owner found without one has 21 days to comply or may be fined up to £500. Free-living cats (farm, feral and community cats) are exempt.

Lucy's Law: buying a kitten

In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that kittens under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.
