Rescue kittens in Cardiff: where to adopt one
Plenty of people around Cardiff search for kittens, and few rescue kittens are listed at any one time, so it pays to know where they turn up and to be ready to apply. Here is which rescues rehome kittens, what each charges, and what Welsh law says about buying one.

The short answer
To adopt a rescue kitten in Cardiff, watch our Cardiff kittens page and the cat rescues nearby. When we checked on 29 October 2026 only one kitten was listed with us near the city, at All Creatures Great and Small near Cwmbran, which asks £120 for a kitten under 12 months. Cats Protection's Wales Cat Centre near Bridgend charges £100 for a kitten, and its volunteer Cardiff & The Vale branch and the RSPCA's Newport Animal Centre rehome kittens too.
- Rescue adoption fees
- Each rescue sets its own fee. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Where to find a rescue kitten in Cardiff
Our Cardiff kittens page shows every kitten listed with us within about 25 miles, and our guide to Cardiff cat rescues compares the rescues themselves. Kittens near Cardiff are few at any one time, so check back often and be ready to apply quickly.
All Creatures Great and Small, near Cwmbran
At Church Farm, Llanfrechfa, near Cwmbran, about 14 miles north east, and the rescue with the kitten listed with us when we checked. You start with its "Perfect match form" or a call or email; its adoption process then has a meet and greet, a home visit and an adoption date. Its £120 donation for a kitten under 12 months goes towards vet treatment, neutering and flea and worm prevention, and every adopter gets four weeks' free pet insurance.
Cats Protection: Cardiff & The Vale, and the Wales Cat Centre
Cats Protection's Cardiff & The Vale branch is run by volunteers across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan postcodes, and its Wales Cat Centre is at Pant Hirwaun, Bryncethin, near Bridgend, about 16 miles west, where a kitten costs £100. For both, you enquire about a kitten through its listing on the Cats Protection website; we don't list their cats.
RSPCA Newport Animal Centre
The centre rehomes cats and dogs its inspectors have taken in. You apply through an animal's profile on the RSPCA "Find a pet" site, then the team phones you, does a virtual home visit and books you a visit to meet the kitten. You must be 18 or over and bring photo ID or proof of address.
Being ready to apply
With so few kittens listed at a time, the people who adopt one are usually those ready to move. Have your landlord's written permission in hand if you rent (All Creatures Great and Small asks for it), know who in your household will come to a meet and greet, and think about where the kitten will sleep and how you will keep it safe while it settles.
Consider an older cat too. Rescues often have young adult cats with settled personalities, and All Creatures Great and Small's donation for a cat of 12 months or older is £99, less than for a kitten.
Neutering, vaccinations and microchips
Ask the rescue what has been done and what you agree to do. This is what the organisations here say on their own pages:
- Vet work. All Creatures Great and Small says its donations cover vet treatment, neutering and flea and worm prevention; check what is still to come for a very young kitten.
- Microchips. In Wales microchipping a cat is a choice rather than a legal requirement (see the law section below). Ask whether the kitten is chipped, and if it is, keep your contact details up to date on the database.
If you've been searching "kittens for sale Cardiff"
Rescue kittens are adopted, not sold: you apply, the rescue matches you, and you pay its adoption fee. Every kitten on our Cardiff kittens page is adopted that way. The same goes for "free kittens": a rescue asks a fee towards vet work, and a "free to good home" advert has no rescue behind it.
If you buy, know the law in Wales: since 10 September 2021, under Lucy's Law, which the Welsh Government brought in, a kitten can only be bought where it was bred, or from a rescue or rehoming centre, not from a third-party dealer. See the kitten with its mother at home, and if you want a pedigree, Cats Protection suggests a breeder registered with a breed association such as the GCCF. If an advert looks like a scam, report it to Report Fraud, which replaced Action Fraud.

Microchipping cats
In Wales, microchipping a cat is a choice rather than a legal requirement: gov.uk says owners in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland "can choose to microchip" their cat. Compulsory cat microchipping applies in England only.
Lucy's Law: buying a kitten
In Wales, Lucy's Law has meant since 10 September 2021 that kittens can only be bought where they were bred, or from a rescue or rehoming centre.

Where can I adopt a rescue kitten in Cardiff?
At All Creatures Great and Small near Cwmbran, whose kitten was the one listed with us near Cardiff on 29 October 2026, and through Cats Protection's Cardiff & The Vale branch, its Wales Cat Centre near Bridgend and the RSPCA's Newport Animal Centre. Our Cardiff kittens page shows every kitten listed with us today.
How much does it cost to adopt a kitten in Cardiff?
All Creatures Great and Small asks £120 for a kitten under 12 months and Cats Protection's Wales Cat Centre £100. The fee covers vet work such as vaccination, and neutering or a plan for it, so ask what has been done for a very young kitten.
Why are so few rescue kittens listed near Cardiff?
Because they are in demand and go quickly, and some organisations near Cardiff, such as Cats Protection and the RSPCA, advertise on their own sites rather than with us. Check their listings as well as ours, and consider a young adult cat.
Is it legal to buy a kitten from a pet shop in Wales?
Not from a third-party seller. Since 10 September 2021 Lucy's Law in Wales has meant a kitten can only be bought where it was bred, or adopted from a rescue or rehoming centre.
Does a rescue kitten need to be microchipped in Wales?
No. In Wales microchipping a cat is a choice rather than the law; compulsory cat microchipping applies in England only. Ask the rescue whether the kitten is chipped and keep your details up to date if it is.
Are there free kittens or kittens for sale at Cardiff rescues?
No. Rescues adopt kittens out for a fee that covers vet work; the lowest we found near Cardiff was £100 at Cats Protection's Wales Cat Centre. A "free" kitten in a private advert comes with no rescue checks, so see it with its mother at home and never pay a deposit for one you haven't met.
