Yes. Lucy's Law stops third-party sales, not rescues. In Wales, Lucy's Law has meant since 10 September 2021 that puppies can only be bought where they were bred, or from a rescue or rehoming centre.

They should be microchipped. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped and registered by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a puppy can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped. At the large charities the fee also pays for first vaccinations. Dogs Trust's fee includes a health check, vaccinations, worming and other treatments, neutering (or a neutering voucher), microchipping, a collar and lead, food and four weeks' free Petplan insurance. A young puppy may still have vaccinations to finish, so ask the rescue which it has had and what is still due.

As of 8 November 2026, the 18 puppies listed in Wales are: 18 aged six to 12 months, by the rescues' listed ages. We count a dog as a puppy up to 12 months. Each puppy's rescue can tell you what it has learned so far.

It depends on the dog, not its size or age. As of 8 November 2026, the rescues mark 10 of the 18 puppies listed in Wales as able to live with children, 3 with cats and 12 with other dogs. Where a profile says nothing, ask the rescue, and supervise early meetings with children whatever the dog.

Puppies are a small share of what rescues list: as of 8 November 2026, 18 of the 179 dogs listed in Wales are puppies. Young adult dogs are worth a look too, and their rescues can tell you more about their character.

Not here: we only list dogs with rescues, so every puppy listed here is adopted for the rescue's fee, which usually covers vet work already done. Whether to buy is your choice. Adopting means the rescue can tell you what it knows about the puppy's history and health before you apply. If you decide to buy, The Royal Kennel Club runs a Find a Puppy service, and Dogs Trust's breed guides suggest talking to your vet first: they say some practices offer pre-purchase consultations on likely health conditions and rough costs.

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 18 puppies listed in Wales today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is Many Tears Animal Rescue at Llanelli. Puppy fees can be higher: Blue Cross puppies start from £525, while Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.
