Most of the dogs listed with us around Dumfries are grown dogs, and the number above updates itself. When we checked on 5 November 2026 there was no puppy under 6 months: the youngest dog was 11 months old at Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre, and the two greyhound charities had grown dogs only: Dumfriesshire and Cumbria Greyhound Rescue says most of its hounds are 3 to 5 years old.
The Glencaple centre does take in young dogs: it has had purpose-built puppy and isolation units since 2013. Its home finder form puts you on its radar, so fill it in if you hope for a young dog.
Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre matches dogs to homes from its form, then invites you to meet a dog, with no decision asked for on the day. A dog too young to be neutered goes home unneutered, and the centre talks you through the options; every dog is microchipped, vaccinated and flea and worm treated first.
A rescue dog is adopted, not sold. If you buy instead, Lucy's Law has applied in Scotland since 1 September 2021: it ends the third party sale of puppies under six months old, and the Scottish Government says buyers go directly to a licensed breeder or a licensed rehoming centre. Blue Cross also urges buyers to meet a puppy with its mother. The council publishes a list of licence holders, breeding licences included, which you can check a breeder against.
Blue Cross puts the price of a bought puppy between £400 and £3,000, with food, insurance and vet care still to come. Don't hand over a deposit before you have seen the puppy in person; report a suspect seller to Police Scotland.
At Glencaple the adoption fee is a minimum donation of £220, whatever the dog's age.
Rescue fees for puppies are set by each rescue, and Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Yes. Lucy's Law stops third-party sales, not rescues. In Scotland, Lucy's Law has banned the third-party sale of puppies under six months since 1 September 2021.
They should be microchipped. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped and registered by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a puppy can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped. At the large charities the fee also pays for first vaccinations. Dogs Trust's fee includes a health check, vaccinations, worming and other treatments, neutering (or a neutering voucher), microchipping, a collar and lead, food and four weeks' free Petplan insurance. A young puppy may still have vaccinations to finish, so ask the rescue which it has had and what is still due.

Not here: we only list dogs with rescues, so every puppy listed here is adopted for the rescue's fee, which usually covers vet work already done. Whether to buy is your choice. Adopting means the rescue can tell you what it knows about the puppy's history and health before you apply. If you decide to buy, The Royal Kennel Club runs a Find a Puppy service, and Dogs Trust's breed guides suggest talking to your vet first: they say some practices offer pre-purchase consultations on likely health conditions and rough costs.
