Be ready to wait: on 5 November 2026 we had no dog younger than a year listed within 25 miles of Portsmouth. On its own page that day, Hairy Hounz had two 14-month-old Pomchi brothers and a 17-month-old Dachshund in foster homes.
St Francis Animal Welfare at Fair Oak charges £350 to £400 for a puppy, against £200 to £350 for an adult dog. Phoenix Rehoming charges £225 to £425 for its dogs and gives a 7-day cooling-off period once a dog is six months old.
Rescues hand puppies over for an adoption fee once their first vet work is done, never as a sale. Second Chance warns that scammers target people hunting for dogs and says it rehomes only from Mansbridge. If you buy instead, Blue Cross expects £400 to £3,000 for the puppy alone and advises meeting it with its mother; send any dodgy listing to Report Fraud.

Yes. Lucy's Law stops third-party sales, not rescues. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.
They should be microchipped. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped and registered by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a puppy can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped. At the large charities the fee also pays for first vaccinations. Dogs Trust's fee includes a health check, vaccinations, worming and other treatments, neutering (or a neutering voucher), microchipping, a collar and lead, food and four weeks' free Petplan insurance. A young puppy may still have vaccinations to finish, so ask the rescue which it has had and what is still due.
As of 8 November 2026, none of the 27 dogs listed in Portsmouth is a puppy. Young adult dogs are worth a look too, or check back.
Rescue fees for puppies are set by each rescue. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.
No. We don't list animals for sale. Every puppy on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. Rescues rehome animals rather than selling them, usually for an adoption fee: for example, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. The fee usually goes towards vet work already done, such as neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.
Not here: we only list dogs with rescues, so every puppy listed here is adopted for the rescue's fee, which usually covers vet work already done. Whether to buy is your choice. Adopting means the rescue can tell you what it knows about the puppy's history and health before you apply. If you decide to buy, The Royal Kennel Club runs a Find a Puppy service, and Dogs Trust's breed guides suggest talking to your vet first: they say some practices offer pre-purchase consultations on likely health conditions and rough costs.
Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Puppy fees can be higher: Blue Cross puppies start from £525, while Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.
