What Boxers are like to live with

The Boxer is a German breed, descended from the Bullenbeisser and thought to have been crossed with the Bulldog. The Royal Kennel Club sums it up as "lively, strong and family-orientated", and says it is "much loved as a family companion for his intelligence and character". The same page notes the breed is an excellent guard dog and has worked as a tracking dog and in the armed forces.

Boxers listed in Wales today

As of 7 November 2026, 3 Boxers are listed with rescues in Wales on LocalPetFinder: by their listed age, 2 adults. The rest have no age we can read, so check the profile.

2 of them are listed as a cross, as the rescue describes it: Boxer Cross and Boxer x Staffy. Breed labels on rescue listings are often a best guess from looks.

The rescues mark 2 as able to live with children and 2 with other dogs. Where a profile says nothing, it doesn't mean no: ask the rescue.

Breed descriptions are general. Every rescue animal is an individual, so the rescue's own assessment of the animal comes first.

Which rescues near Wales have Boxers right now, and how old are they?

As of 7 November 2026, Many Tears Animal Rescue (at Llanelli): 1, North Clwyd Animal Rescue (at Trelogan): 1 and West Wales Poundies Dog Rescue (at Llandeilo): 1. By age, that is 2 adult dogs, plus 1 with no age given. The newest was added on 7 November 2026. Each profile links to the rescue, which handles the adoption.

Where can I adopt a Boxer in Wales?

With the rescue that has the dog. Today the Boxers on this page are with Many Tears Animal Rescue (1), North Clwyd Animal Rescue (1) and West Wales Poundies Dog Rescue (1). Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.

How much exercise does a Boxer need?

More than two hours a day, according to The Royal Kennel Club. It lists the Boxer as a large breed best suited to a large house with a large garden. Dogs Trust says Boxers are at higher risk of heat stroke, so take care with exercise on warm days.

Are Boxers good family dogs?

The Royal Kennel Club describes the Boxer as "much loved as a family companion", but every rescue dog is an individual. Ask the rescue whether this dog has lived with children and what kind of home they think suits it; their assessment matters more than the breed.

Are Boxers good with children?

It depends on the dog, not the breed. Today the rescues mark 2 of the 3 Boxers listed in Wales as able to live with children. Where a profile says nothing, ask the rescue what age of children the dog could live with.

How much does it cost to adopt a Boxer in Wales?

The Boxers listed in Wales today are with Many Tears Animal Rescue at Llanelli (1), North Clwyd Animal Rescue at Trelogan (1) and West Wales Poundies Dog Rescue at Llandeilo (1); each profile shows that rescue's fee. Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Are there Boxer puppies for sale in Wales?

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Boxer on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. The 3 Boxers listed in Wales today are with Many Tears Animal Rescue at Llanelli (1), North Clwyd Animal Rescue at Trelogan (1) and West Wales Poundies Dog Rescue at Llandeilo (1), and each rescue shows its own fee on the profile. For comparison, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. If you searched "boxer puppies for sale Wales", the Boxers here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In Wales, Lucy's Law has meant since 10 September 2021 that puppies can only be bought where they were bred, or from a rescue or rehoming centre.

Can I get a free Boxer to a good home in Wales, or one under £500?

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 3 Boxers listed in Wales today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is Many Tears Animal Rescue at Llanelli. Many rescue fees are under £500: Dogs Trust charges £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.

Are there Boxer puppies for adoption in Wales?

Not right now: none of the 3 listed in Wales is under a year old by its listed age. Puppies do get listed, so check back or look at the adults, whose rescues can tell you much more about their character.

Are there older Boxers for adoption in Wales?

Not right now: none of the 3 listed in Wales is aged 7 or over by its listed age. Older Boxers do come into rescue, so check back. Some rescues charge less for older dogs: Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over.
