Rescue puppies in Peterborough and Spalding

Puppies for sale is one of the biggest pet searches around Peterborough and Spalding. On 6 November 2026 the rescues on our Peterborough pages had two puppies in all, a pair of Staffy cross girls at Algarkirk. Here is where else a young dog may appear, what each rescue charges, and how to vet a breeder if you go that way.

The short answer

Rescue puppies are rare around Peterborough. On 6 November 2026 the only two at the rescues we list here were Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross girls of about 2 months at Jerry Green Dog Rescue's Algarkirk centre, which sets a puppy's fee case by case. Elsewhere the youngest were just over a year old at Three Counties Dog Rescue in Bourne, a Labrador of 1 at Animal Helpline in Wansford, and a greyhound coming up to two near Spalding, so ask the rescues directly and watch our Peterborough puppies page.

Rescue adoption fees
Rescue fees for puppies are set by each rescue. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.
Three Counties Dog Rescue
A minimum of £250 for any dog, paid after the trial.
Animal Helpline
A hoped-for donation of £400.
Jerry Green Dog Rescue
£385 over 20 weeks; a puppy's fee is agreed on a successful application.
Buying a puppy
From £400 up to £3,000 for the pup itself, on Blue Cross figures.
Over its life
PDSA puts a dog's lifetime bill at £6,200 to £18,800 or more.

Four places to watch for a young dog

Young dogs from these rescues land on our Peterborough puppies page as this update goes live.

Three Counties Dog Rescue, Bourne

The biggest list near the city. On 6 November 2026 its youngest, on its male and female pages, were a Chow cross Husky and a Labrador cross Husky of just over a year. It warns that a young dog or puppy "will want company much of the day".

Animal Helpline, Wansford

Most of its dogs are strays, and it says most go on its Facebook page before its website, so a young dog may appear there first. On 6 November 2026 its youngest listed was Archie, a Labrador of 1.

Greyhounds near Spalding

Racers usually retire at three to five, though a few that never make the track come younger. The youngest on the branch's list that day was coming up to two.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue and Woodgreen

Jerry Green Dog Rescue's Algarkirk centre, already on our pages, had the only puppies near the city on 6 November 2026: two Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross girls of about 2 months. It discusses a puppy's fee once your application succeeds. Woodgreen at Godmanchester rehomes dogs too but doesn't list them with us, so check its own site.

Mo, Luna and the hounds: why a yearling is worth a look

Mo, a Chow cross Husky, and Luna, a Labrador cross Husky, were both a little over a year old at Bourne when we checked, and Three Counties writes a suggested leaving time and a children's age onto each dog's description. With a dog that age you meet the adult it has already become. The racing kennel near Spalding is similar: Brian, its youngest hound, was nearly two. Our Peterborough dog rescues guide sets the rescues side by side.

No rescue here has a price list. Jerry Green's two pups at Algarkirk are matched to homes through its appointment-only Meet&Match process, with the fee settled after your application is accepted, and LocalPetFinder itself takes no money for any dog on our Peterborough puppies page.

If you decide on a breeder, English law since 6 April 2020 (Lucy's Law) means only the breeder may sell a pup younger than six months, never a pet shop or a dealer; rescues can still rehome young dogs. Blue Cross advises meeting the mother with her pups, and breeders of each breed are on The Royal Kennel Club's Find a puppy search.

The law in England

Microchipping and change of keeper

In England, as everywhere in the UK, every dog must be microchipped and registered by 8 weeks old. Since 6 April 2016 a dog in England can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, and the new keeper must update the database (the England regulations). A rescue chips before rehoming; after adoption, keep the details up to date.

Lucy's Law: buying a puppy

In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Banned dog types

In England, it is against the law to sell, abandon, give away or breed from a banned type: the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro and XL Bully. Whether a dog is banned depends on what it looks like rather than its breed or name, so no rescue can rehome one and none appear on LocalPetFinder. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is not a banned type.

XL Bully dogs

In England, since 31 December 2023 it has been illegal to breed, sell, advertise, gift, exchange or abandon an XL Bully or let it stray, and since 1 February 2024 illegal to own one without a Certificate of Exemption (gov.uk: England and Wales).

Questions

Tap a question to expand

Do rescues near Peterborough have puppies?

Very few. On 6 November 2026 the only two were Staffy cross girls of about 2 months at Jerry Green Dog Rescue's Algarkirk centre, about 24 miles away. Animal Helpline puts most new dogs on Facebook before its website, so ask the rescues directly.

What does a rescue puppy cost around Peterborough?

Jerry Green Dog Rescue agrees a puppy's fee once an application succeeds. Three Counties wants at least £250 for any dog, and Animal Helpline hopes for £400. A bought pup runs from £400 to £3,000 on Blue Cross figures.

Is there a rescue puppy near Spalding?

Jerry Green Dog Rescue's Algarkirk centre, about 8 miles from Spalding, had the two puppies we found on 6 November 2026. The greyhound branch near the town rehomes retired racers, not puppies, and our Spalding puppies page lists any young rescue dog within reach.

Can I get a free puppy in Peterborough?

Not from these rescues: Three Counties asks at least £250, Animal Helpline hopes for £400 and Jerry Green sets a puppy fee case by case. Those sums pay for neutering, vaccinations and the chip that a "free" advert pup may still need.

How do I spot a fake puppy advert near Peterborough?

A seller who asks for money before you visit, has no mother dog to show or can't give a chip number. Don't pay; tell Report Fraud about the listing.

Can a Peterborough pet shop sell an eight-week-old puppy?

No. Under Lucy's Law, in force in England from 6 April 2020, only its breeder may sell a puppy younger than six months, so a shop or dealer can't. Rescues still rehome puppies.

Would a one-year-old rescue dog suit me better?

Often, around Peterborough. Mo and Luna at Three Counties Dog Rescue were just over a year old on 6 November 2026, Archie at Animal Helpline was 1, and Brian, the youngest greyhound near Spalding, was nearly two.
