Rescue puppies in Lincoln and Lincolnshire: where to adopt one

Searches for rescue puppies in Lincolnshire run to about two thousand a month, and as many again look for puppies for sale in Lincoln and the county. Few young dogs were listed around Lincoln when we checked, so this guide sets out where they do appear, what a rescue charges compared with a breeder, and how to spot a puppy scam before you pay anyone.

By the LocalPetFinder Team · Checked 5 November 2026

The short answer

Rescue puppies are scarce near Lincoln. On 5 November 2026 the youngest dogs listed with us within 25 miles were five 5-month-old terrier crosses at RAIN Rescue in Misson, about 23 miles away. Jerry Green Dog Rescue agrees a puppy's fee with you after a successful application. Watch our Lincoln puppies page, and think about a dog of one or two as well.

Rescue adoption fees
Rescue fees for puppies are set by each rescue. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.
Rescues near Lincoln
Jerry Green Dog Rescue: a puppy fee agreed with you, then £385 from 20 weeks. RAIN Rescue: generally £250 to £350. Doris Banham Dog Rescue: £250.
Buying a puppy
Blue Cross says £400 to £3,000 for the puppy, before food, insurance and vet bills.
The years ahead
Over its whole life, PDSA reckoned in 2024, a dog costs £6,200 to £18,800 at the least, whatever you paid for it.

Where young rescue dogs turn up near Lincoln

Our Lincoln puppies page counts every young dog listed with us within 25 miles, and is the quickest check. On 5 November 2026 the youngest were at RAIN Rescue, with dogs of 8 to 11 months at Jerry Green and Doggy Dens.

RAIN Rescue, Misson

RAIN Rescue works by appointment only, prices each dog on its profile and reserves none before a home check and a meet and greet. Its five terrier-cross pups were the youngest dogs near Lincoln on the day we checked; see our RAIN Rescue page for who is there now.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue, Broughton

Jerry Green rehomes puppies as well as adults. Its FAQs say a puppy's fee, up to 20 weeks old, is discussed once your application succeeds. Meetings at its North Lincolnshire centre near Brigg are by Meet&Match appointment, and you should not expect to bring a dog home that day. Its dogs are on our Jerry Green page.

Doris Banham Dog Rescue and Doggy Dens

Doris Banham Dog Rescue takes dogs from council pounds, so young strays can arrive at its Cottam kennels; its list is mostly adults, and it gives every new dog 28 days of assessment first. Doggy Dens UK Rescue at Cuckney charges from £450 and wants 5 ft fencing. Its dogs are on our Doggy Dens page.

Puppy rules at Lincoln rescues

A young dog needs time, training and a safe garden, and the rescues here say so in their rules:

  • Neutering later. Doris Banham makes neutering a term of adoption when a dog is too young to be done before it leaves, and checks that it happens.
  • Children. Doris Banham won't home to families with children under 5, and Doggy Dens places only some dogs with children.
  • Fences. Doggy Dens UK Rescue asks for at least 5 ft, sometimes more for a particular dog.

Why a dog of one or two can suit you better

Most dogs near Lincoln are adults, many of them former strays, so a young adult is the realistic choice for many homes. Its size and character are already clear, and Doris Banham's write-ups say how each dog gets on with other dogs and, where the rescue knows, with cats.

Searching "puppies for sale Lincoln" or "Lincolnshire"?

Rescues don't sell puppies. You apply, the rescue matches a dog to your home, and the fee helps pay for the vaccinations and vet care already given. We sell nothing either: every young dog shown on our puppies page belongs to a rescue, and the adoption runs through that rescue.

Buying from a breeder? In England, Lucy's Law (6 April 2020) keeps puppies under six months out of pet shops and dealers' hands, so you deal with the breeder directly. Blue Cross advises meeting the puppy and its mother together, and The Royal Kennel Club has a Find a puppy search that lists breeders.

The law in England

Microchipping and change of keeper

In England, as everywhere in the UK, every dog must be microchipped and registered by 8 weeks old. Since 6 April 2016 a dog in England can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, and the new keeper must update the database (the England regulations). A rescue chips before rehoming; after adoption, keep the details up to date.

Lucy's Law: buying a puppy

In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Banned dog types

In England, it is against the law to sell, abandon, give away or breed from a banned type: the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro and XL Bully. Whether a dog is banned depends on what it looks like rather than its breed or name, so no rescue can rehome one and none appear on LocalPetFinder. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is not a banned type.

XL Bully dogs

In England, since 31 December 2023 it has been illegal to breed, sell, advertise, gift, exchange or abandon an XL Bully or let it stray, and since 1 February 2024 illegal to own one without a Certificate of Exemption (gov.uk: England and Wales).

Questions

Tap a question to expand

Are there rescue puppies in Lincolnshire?

A few. On 5 November 2026 the youngest dogs listed with us near Lincoln were 5-month-old terrier crosses at RAIN Rescue in Misson. Jerry Green Dog Rescue, which has a North Lincolnshire centre, rehomes puppies too.

Where can I find rescue puppies near Lincoln?

Keep an eye on RAIN Rescue at Misson, Jerry Green at Broughton and near Blidworth, and Doris Banham Dog Rescue at Cottam, and ask each to note your interest. Young dogs from all of them show up on our Lincoln puppies page.

What does a rescue puppy cost around Lincoln?

Jerry Green agrees a puppy's fee with you after a successful application and charges £385 from 20 weeks. RAIN Rescue generally asks £250 to £350 and Doris Banham £250. Blue Cross puts a bought puppy at £400 to £3,000.

Are there free puppies in Lincoln?

No rescue near Lincoln gives puppies away; the fee pays back part of the jabs, chip and neutering. A "free puppy" advert deserves extra care: insist on seeing the mother and on getting the chip number.

How can I spot a puppy scam in Lincolnshire?

Warning signs are a seller who wants a deposit before any visit, who won't show the mother, or who has no chip number. Walk away and report the advert to Report Fraud.

Should I consider a young adult dog instead?

It is worth a look. A young adult is close to full size, the rescue already knows its temperament, and the kennels near Lincoln hold many more of them than puppies.

Can a pet shop in Lincoln sell a young puppy?

Not one under six months. England's Lucy's Law, from 6 April 2020, means those puppies come from their breeder or a rehoming centre only.
