Rescue puppies in Norwich and Norfolk: where to adopt one
If you want a puppy in Norfolk, start with the honest picture: the rescues around Norwich had none on their own pages when we checked. That doesn't make a rescue puppy impossible, just slower to find. This guide covers which rescues take puppies and what they charge, why a young adult may suit you, and how to buy without being caught out if you go to a breeder instead.

The short answer
Rescue puppies are hard to find near Norwich: on 6 November 2026 none of the dog rescues joining us here showed one on its own pages. PACT Animal Sanctuary at Woodrising rehomes puppies for a minimum donation of £450 under 6 months and £400 from 6 to 12 months, so register with it and with FAITH at Hickling, and keep an eye on our Norwich puppies page.
- Rescue adoption fees
- Rescue fees for puppies are set by each rescue. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.
- Rescues near Norwich
- PACT Animal Sanctuary: at least £450 under 6 months, £400 from 6 to 12 months, £350 for an adult. NASAT: £300. Hillside Animal Sanctuary, which we don't list: at least £325.
- Buying a puppy
- By Blue Cross figures the puppy alone costs £400 to £3,000, before food, insurance or vet bills.
- The years ahead
- From £6,200 to £18,800 across a dog's life, by PDSA's 2024 figures, whatever the dog cost to begin with.
Where rescue puppies come from near Norwich
Any young dog a rescue lists with us inside the 25 miles appears on our Norwich puppies page. Until one does, these are the rescues to contact:
PACT Animal Sanctuary, Woodrising
PACT says it is always taking in new dogs, so the right one may arrive within weeks. It sets separate puppy donations and books a young puppy in for neutering once it is old enough. It asks for a private enclosed garden, no flat or shared garden, and at least three visits to the dog, with your whole household meeting it.
FAITH Animal Rescue, Hickling
Hillside Animal Sanctuary, Frettenham
Hillside rehomes puppies to Norfolk families, but only where any children are over 10, and keeps your form for three months. We don't list its dogs, so watch its own page.
Puppy rules at the rescues near Norwich
Young dogs take time, and the rescues here ask for proof you have it:
- Older children only. NASAT takes no applications from homes with children under 10, and Hillside wants children over 10 for a puppy.
- Secure fencing. PACT asks for boundaries of 4 to 6 ft, set for each dog.
- Neutering later. Both PACT and FAITH bring young puppies back for neutering when they are old enough.
A young adult instead of a puppy
The dogs on these rescues' pages when we checked were all grown, from retired greyhounds of three and over to lurchers and crossbreeds at FAITH and NASAT. A young adult has its full size and settled character already, and the rescue has already seen how it gets on with children, cats and other dogs. Our guide to dog rescues around Norwich compares the four.
Searching "puppies for sale Norwich" or "Norfolk"?
No rescue sells puppies. You fill in an application, the rescue pairs a dog with your household, and the fee helps cover jabs, the chip and neutering. We sell nothing either: the young dogs on our puppies page are rescue dogs, adopted through the rescue that cares for them.
Going to a breeder? In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that a puppy under six months can't be sold by a pet shop or dealer, only by its breeder. Blue Cross wants you to meet mother and puppy together, and breeders can be searched through the Find a puppy tool of The Royal Kennel Club. The same advice applies in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.
The law in England
Microchipping and change of keeper
In England, as everywhere in the UK, every dog must be microchipped and registered by 8 weeks old. Since 6 April 2016 a dog in England can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, and the new keeper must update the database (the England regulations). A rescue chips before rehoming; after adoption, keep the details up to date.
Lucy's Law: buying a puppy
In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.
Banned dog types
In England, it is against the law to sell, abandon, give away or breed from a banned type: the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro and XL Bully. Whether a dog is banned depends on what it looks like rather than its breed or name, so no rescue can rehome one and none appear on LocalPetFinder. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is not a banned type.
XL Bully dogs
In England, since 31 December 2023 it has been illegal to breed, sell, advertise, gift, exchange or abandon an XL Bully or let it stray, and since 1 February 2024 illegal to own one without a Certificate of Exemption (gov.uk: England and Wales).
Questions
Tap a question to expand
Are there rescue puppies in Norfolk?
Sometimes, but none of the dog rescues we list near Norwich had one on its own pages on 6 November 2026. PACT Animal Sanctuary sets puppy fees and FAITH Animal Rescue neuters young puppies later, so both rehome puppies when they have them.
Where can I find a rescue puppy near Norwich?
Register with PACT at Woodrising and FAITH at Hickling, and check Hillside Animal Sanctuary's own page, as we don't list its dogs. Puppies from the rescues we list will show on our Norwich puppies page.
How much is a rescue puppy near Norwich?
PACT asks a minimum of £450 for a puppy under 6 months and £400 from 6 to 12 months. Blue Cross puts a puppy bought from a breeder at £400 to £3,000.
Are there free puppies in Norwich?
Not from a rescue: the fee helps pay for vaccinations, the chip and neutering. Treat any "free puppy" advert with care, and always see the mother and get the chip number first.
What are the signs of a puppy scam in Norfolk?
Three warning signs: a deposit demanded before any visit, no mother to see, and no chip number. Any one of them is a reason to stop and tell Report Fraud.
Can I adopt a puppy near Norwich with young children?
It is harder. Hillside places puppies only with families whose children are over 10, and NASAT takes no applications from homes with children under 10.
Is a young adult dog a good alternative to a puppy?
For many homes, yes. A dog of one or two is close to full size, its character is known, and the rescues near Norwich had young adults but no puppies when we checked.
Can a pet shop in Norwich sell a young puppy?
No. England's Lucy's Law has applied since 6 April 2020: a puppy under six months comes from its breeder or a rescue, never a shop or dealer.
