What Staffies are like to live with

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a British breed. The Royal Kennel Club says it was developed in the Black Country of Staffordshire and northern parts of Birmingham, and was recognised in the 1930s. It sums the breed up as "highly intelligent and affectionate especially with children", and says the breed standard notes its intelligence and affinity with children.

Staffies listed in and around Warrington today

As of 8 November 2026, 21 Staffies are listed with rescues in and around Warrington on LocalPetFinder: by their listed age, 2 puppies aged 12 months or under, 10 adults and 7 aged 7 or over. The rest have no age we can read, so check the profile.

15 of them are listed as a cross, as the rescue describes it: Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross (8), Am Bull/Staffy Cross and Cross Frenchie/Staffy and others. Breed labels on rescue listings are often a best guess from looks.

The rescues mark 9 as able to live with children, 1 with cats and 4 with other dogs. Where a profile says nothing, it doesn't mean no: ask the rescue.

Which rescues near Warrington have Staffies right now, and how old are they?

As of 8 November 2026, Carla Lane Animals in Need (at Melling, about 15 miles away): 6, Freshfields Animal Rescue (at Ince Blundell, about 20 miles away): 5, Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary (at Ramsbottom, about 21 miles away): 3, Manchester & Cheshire Dogs' Home (in Warrington): 2, Destitute Animals Shelter (at Bolton, about 15 miles away): 2 and Windyway Animal Rescue (at Macclesfield, about 21 miles away): 2, and 1 more. By age, that is 2 puppies, 10 adult dogs and 7 older dogs, plus 2 with no age given. The newest was added on 5 November 2026. Each profile links to the rescue, which handles the adoption.

Where can I adopt a Staffy in Warrington?

With the rescue that has the dog. Today the Staffies on this page are with Carla Lane Animals in Need (6), Freshfields Animal Rescue (5), Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary (3), Destitute Animals Shelter (2), Manchester & Cheshire Dogs' Home (2), Windyway Animal Rescue (2) and 1 other rescue. Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.

Are Staffies a banned breed in the UK?

No. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is not a banned type. The banned types are the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro and XL Bully, and gov.uk says a dog's type is judged on what it looks like rather than its breed or name. Rescues cannot rehome a banned type, so none are listed on LocalPetFinder.

Are Staffies good with children?

Often, but not always. The Royal Kennel Club describes the breed as "affectionate especially with children", while PDSA notes Staffies are very high energy and might not suit families with younger children. Ask the rescue whether this dog has lived with children and what age of children they would rehome it with; the rescue's assessment of the dog matters more than the breed.

How much does it cost to adopt a Staffy in Warrington?

The Staffies listed in and around Warrington today are with Carla Lane Animals in Need at Melling, about 15 miles away (6), Freshfields Animal Rescue at Ince Blundell, about 20 miles away (5), Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary at Ramsbottom, about 21 miles away (3) and 4 other rescues; each profile shows that rescue's fee. Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Are there Staffy puppies for sale in Warrington?

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Staffy on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. The 21 Staffies listed in and around Warrington today are with Carla Lane Animals in Need at Melling, about 15 miles away (6), Freshfields Animal Rescue at Ince Blundell, about 20 miles away (5), Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary at Ramsbottom, about 21 miles away (3) and 4 other rescues, and each rescue shows its own fee on the profile. For comparison, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. If you searched "staffy puppies for sale Warrington", the Staffies here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Can I get a free Staffy to a good home in Warrington, or one under £500?

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 21 Staffies listed in and around Warrington today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is Manchester & Cheshire Dogs' Home in Warrington. Many rescue fees are under £500: Dogs Trust charges £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.

Are there Staffy puppies for adoption in Warrington?

Yes: 2 puppies of the 21 listed in and around Warrington are 12 months or under by their listed age.

Are there older Staffies for adoption in Warrington?

Yes: 7 of the 21 listed in and around Warrington are aged 7 or over by their listed age. Some rescues charge less for older dogs: Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over.
