About Staffies in Plymouth

When we checked on 29 October 2026, two Staffies were listed near Plymouth: one with Woodside Animal Welfare Trust, just east of the city, and one with Margaret Green Animal Rescue's Wingletang centre near Tavistock, about 15 miles from Plymouth. One was an adult and one an older dog.

Woodside asks £200 for a dog over six months and £230 for one under six months, and says pedigrees may cost more. Every Woodside dog goes out only after a visit to your home first, and it does not rehome to a property with no garden or a shared one: the garden must be fully enclosed, with fencing on average six feet high.

What Staffies are like to live with

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a British breed. The Royal Kennel Club says it was developed in the Black Country of Staffordshire and northern parts of Birmingham, and was recognised in the 1930s. It sums the breed up as "highly intelligent and affectionate especially with children", and says the breed standard notes its intelligence and affinity with children.

Staffies listed in and around Plymouth today

As of 8 November 2026, 4 Staffies are listed with rescues in and around Plymouth on LocalPetFinder: by their listed age, 1 puppy aged 12 months or under and 3 aged 7 or over.

2 of them are listed as a cross, as the rescue describes it: Lab x Staffy and Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross. Breed labels on rescue listings are often a best guess from looks.

The rescues mark 1 as able to live with children. Where a profile says nothing, it doesn't mean no: ask the rescue.

How many rescue Staffies are available for adoption in Plymouth?

As of 8 November 2026, 4 Staffies are listed for adoption in and around Plymouth on LocalPetFinder, from Woodside Animal Welfare Trust and Margaret Green Animal Rescue (Wingletang). That is 3 in Plymouth itself and 1 with rescues within about 25 miles, each shown with its town and distance. Each profile links to the rescue, and you apply to adopt with them directly.

Which rescues near Plymouth have Staffies right now, and how old are they?

As of 8 November 2026, Woodside Animal Welfare Trust (in Plymouth): 3 and Margaret Green Animal Rescue (Wingletang) (at Lydford, about 19 miles away): 1. By age, that is 1 puppy and 3 older dogs. The newest was added on 31 October 2026. Each profile links to the rescue, which handles the adoption.

Where can I adopt a Staffy in Plymouth?

With the rescue that has the dog. Today the Staffies on this page are with Woodside Animal Welfare Trust (3) and Margaret Green Animal Rescue (Wingletang) (1). Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.

Are Staffies a banned breed in the UK?

No. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is not a banned type. The banned types are the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro and XL Bully, and gov.uk says a dog's type is judged on what it looks like rather than its breed or name. Rescues cannot rehome a banned type, so none are listed on LocalPetFinder.

Are Staffies good with children?

Often, but not always. The Royal Kennel Club describes the breed as "affectionate especially with children", while PDSA notes Staffies are very high energy and might not suit families with younger children. Ask the rescue whether this dog has lived with children and what age of children they would rehome it with; the rescue's assessment of the dog matters more than the breed.

How much does it cost to adopt a Staffy in Plymouth?

The Staffies listed in and around Plymouth today are with Woodside Animal Welfare Trust in Plymouth (3) and Margaret Green Animal Rescue (Wingletang) at Lydford, about 19 miles away (1); each profile shows that rescue's fee. Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Are there Staffy puppies for sale in Plymouth?

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Staffy on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. The 4 Staffies listed in and around Plymouth today are with Woodside Animal Welfare Trust in Plymouth (3) and Margaret Green Animal Rescue (Wingletang) at Lydford, about 19 miles away (1), and each rescue shows its own fee on the profile. For comparison, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. If you searched "staffy puppies for sale Plymouth", the Staffies here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Can I get a free Staffy to a good home in Plymouth, or one under £500?

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 4 Staffies listed in and around Plymouth today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is Woodside Animal Welfare Trust in Plymouth. Many rescue fees are under £500: Dogs Trust charges £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.

Are there Staffy puppies for adoption in Plymouth?

Yes: 1 puppy of the 4 listed in and around Plymouth is 12 months or under by their listed age.

Are there older Staffies for adoption in Plymouth?
