When we checked on 29 October 2026, the four Staffies listed near Edinburgh were all with Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home at Seafield, and all were aged three or four. Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home asks you to apply online for a specific dog, says it will be in touch within a week, and may ask for more than one visit before a rehoming appointment. Its adoption fee for a dog aged six months to nine years is £250.
Scottish Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue works with Staffies across Scotland and says it cannot operate outside Scotland. It has no kennels, so its dogs usually stay in their homes while it looks for adopters. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a British breed. The Royal Kennel Club says it was developed in the Black Country of Staffordshire and northern parts of Birmingham, and was recognised in the 1930s. It sums the breed up as "highly intelligent and affectionate especially with children", and says the breed standard notes its intelligence and affinity with children.

With the rescue that has the dog. Today the Staffies on this page are with Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home (3). Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.
No. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is not a banned type. The banned types are the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro and XL Bully, and gov.uk says a dog's type is judged on what it looks like rather than its breed or name. Rescues cannot rehome a banned type, so none are listed on LocalPetFinder.
Often, but not always. The Royal Kennel Club describes the breed as "affectionate especially with children", while PDSA notes Staffies are very high energy and might not suit families with younger children. Ask the rescue whether this dog has lived with children and what age of children they would rehome it with; the rescue's assessment of the dog matters more than the breed.

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Staffy on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 3 Staffies listed in and around Edinburgh today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; all are with Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home in Edinburgh (3). Many rescue fees are under £500: Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.
