About greyhounds near Edinburgh
When we checked on 29 October 2026, all 21 greyhounds listed near Edinburgh were at Greyhound Rescue Fife, whose kennels are at Gairneybank near Kinross, about 20 miles from Edinburgh. They were aged 1 to 6, 13 females and 7 males, with one not stated. It will rehome to a flat only if the corridor door locks securely, and otherwise asks for a fence of five feet or more around an enclosed garden. Lurchers turn up at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home at Seafield too: it had a five-year-old lurcher that day, at £250 for a dog aged six months to nine years.

What greyhounds are like to live with
Many greyhounds in UK rescue are retired racing dogs. The Greyhound Trust says most retire from racing between three and five years old, so a rescue greyhound is usually a young adult rather than a puppy. The Royal Kennel Club notes that the greyhound seen in the show ring is larger and heavier than the racing greyhound.
