The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a British breed. The Royal Kennel Club says it was developed in the Black Country of Staffordshire and northern parts of Birmingham, and was recognised in the 1930s. It sums the breed up as "highly intelligent and affectionate especially with children", and says the breed standard notes its intelligence and affinity with children.
As of 7 November 2026, 4 Staffies are listed with rescues in Kent on LocalPetFinder: by their listed age, 3 adults and 1 aged 7 or over.
3 of them are listed as a cross, as the rescue describes it: Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross (2) and Jack Russell x Staffy. Breed labels on rescue listings are often a best guess from looks.
None of the profiles says yet whether the animal can live with children, cats or other dogs, so ask the rescue.

Breed descriptions are general. Every rescue animal is an individual, so the rescue's own assessment of the animal comes first.

No. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is not a banned type. The banned types are the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro and XL Bully, and gov.uk says a dog's type is judged on what it looks like rather than its breed or name. Rescues cannot rehome a banned type, so none are listed on LocalPetFinder.
Often, but not always. The Royal Kennel Club describes the breed as "affectionate especially with children", while PDSA notes Staffies are very high energy and might not suit families with younger children. Ask the rescue whether this dog has lived with children and what age of children they would rehome it with; the rescue's assessment of the dog matters more than the breed.
The Staffies listed in Kent today are with Last Chance Animal Rescue at Edenbridge (3) and Fetcher Dog at Maidstone (1); each profile shows that rescue's fee. Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Battersea charges £230 for a dog over six months and £275 for a puppy under six months, Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.
No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Staffy on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. The 4 Staffies listed in Kent today are with Last Chance Animal Rescue at Edenbridge (3) and Fetcher Dog at Maidstone (1), and each rescue shows its own fee on the profile. For comparison, Battersea charges £230 for a dog over six months and £275 for a puppy under six months, and Dogs Trust £300. If you searched "staffy puppies for sale Kent", the Staffies here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.
Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 4 Staffies listed in Kent today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is Last Chance Animal Rescue at Edenbridge. Many rescue fees are under £500: Battersea charges £230 for a dog over six months, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.
Not right now: none of the 4 listed in Kent is under a year old by its listed age. Puppies do get listed, so check back or look at the adults, whose rescues can tell you much more about their character.
Yes: 1 of the 4 listed in Kent is aged 7 or over by their listed age. Some rescues charge less for older dogs: Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over.
