The Royal Kennel Club calls the French Bulldog "the popular clown of the bull breeds", with large "bat ears". It traces part of the breed's ancestry to the Toy Bulldog of 1850s Britain, taken to northern France by Nottingham lace makers, and says the breed's registrations rose tenfold between 2009 and 2015, when it was the third most popular breed in the UK.
As of 8 November 2026, 4 French Bulldogs are listed with rescues in Kent on LocalPetFinder: by their listed age, 3 adults and 1 aged 7 or over.
The rescues mark 1 as able to live with children and 1 with other dogs. Where a profile says nothing, it doesn't mean no: ask the rescue.

With the rescue that has the dog. Today the French Bulldogs on this page are with Last Chance Animal Rescue (3) and Angels 4 Dogs Rescue (1). Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.
They are prone to them. French Bulldogs are among the flat-faced breeds PDSA says are commonly affected by BOAS (brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome), whose signs include noisy breathing, being unable or unwilling to exercise and struggling in hot weather. The University of Cambridge BOAS research group names the French bulldog as a brachycephalic breed, and notes that not all brachycephalic dogs show clinical signs. Ask the rescue what the vet has found about this dog's breathing.
A breathing assessment under The Royal Kennel Club and University of Cambridge Respiratory Function Grading Scheme. Dogs are graded from 0 (clinically unaffected) to 3 (severely affected), from 12 months old, and the scheme says the test should be repeated every two years. The Royal Kennel Club asks French Bulldog breeders to have dogs graded before breeding. Most rescue dogs will not have a grade, so ask what the rescue's vet has found.
It depends on the dog, not the breed. Today the rescues mark 1 of the 4 French Bulldogs listed in Kent as able to live with children. Where a profile says nothing, ask the rescue what age of children the dog could live with.

Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Battersea charges £230 for a dog over six months and £275 for a puppy under six months, Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The 4 French Bulldogs listed in Kent today are with Last Chance Animal Rescue at New Romney (3) and Angels 4 Dogs Rescue at Birchington (1), and each rescue shows its own fee on the profile. If you searched "french bulldog puppies for sale Kent", the French Bulldogs here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.
Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 4 French Bulldogs listed in Kent today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is Last Chance Animal Rescue at New Romney. Many rescue fees are under £500: Battersea charges £230 for a dog over six months, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.
Not right now: none of the 4 listed in Kent is under a year old by its listed age. Puppies do get listed, so check back or look at the adults, whose rescues can tell you much more about their character.
