When we checked on 29 October 2026, four Staffies were listed near Sheffield: two at Thornberry Animal Sanctuary in North Anston, about ten miles from Sheffield, one with Greenleaf Animal Rescue, listed at Wakefield, and one with RAIN Rescue at Misson, both about 21 miles from Sheffield. Two were young, aged one and two, and two were older, one over ten and one aged 13.
Thornberry's adoption and rehoming centre on Todwick Road is open by appointment only, and visitors cannot bring their own dogs on site, apart from guide and assistance dogs. For the older dogs, the Senior Staffy Club rehomes Staffies throughout the UK from private kennels in Worcestershire and Staffordshire or from foster homes, for £120 a dog or £180 for a bonded pair with five weeks of insurance, and it does not rehome where there are children under five.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a British breed. The Royal Kennel Club says it was developed in the Black Country of Staffordshire and northern parts of Birmingham, and was recognised in the 1930s. It sums the breed up as "highly intelligent and affectionate especially with children", and says the breed standard notes its intelligence and affinity with children.
As of 8 November 2026, 10 Staffies are listed with rescues in and around Doncaster on LocalPetFinder: by their listed age, 2 puppies aged 12 months or under, 6 adults and 2 aged 7 or over.
6 of them are listed as a cross, as the rescue describes it: Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross (5) and Collie x Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Breed labels on rescue listings are often a best guess from looks.
The rescues mark 6 as able to live with children, 1 with cats and 3 with other dogs. Where a profile says nothing, it doesn't mean no: ask the rescue.

Breed descriptions are general. Every rescue animal is an individual, so the rescue's own assessment of the animal comes first.

Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.
No. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is not a banned type. The banned types are the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro and XL Bully, and gov.uk says a dog's type is judged on what it looks like rather than its breed or name. Rescues cannot rehome a banned type, so none are listed on LocalPetFinder.
Often, but not always. The Royal Kennel Club describes the breed as "affectionate especially with children", while PDSA notes Staffies are very high energy and might not suit families with younger children. Ask the rescue whether this dog has lived with children and what age of children they would rehome it with; the rescue's assessment of the dog matters more than the breed.
The Staffies listed in and around Doncaster today are with Good Life Dog Rescue at Garforth, about 21 miles away (4), Jerry Green Dog Rescue at Broughton, about 24 miles away (2), RAIN Rescue at Misson, about 9 miles away (1) and 3 other rescues; each profile shows that rescue's fee. Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.
No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Staffy on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. The 10 Staffies listed in and around Doncaster today are with Good Life Dog Rescue at Garforth, about 21 miles away (4), Jerry Green Dog Rescue at Broughton, about 24 miles away (2), RAIN Rescue at Misson, about 9 miles away (1) and 3 other rescues, and each rescue shows its own fee on the profile. For comparison, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. If you searched "staffy puppies for sale Doncaster", the Staffies here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.
Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 10 Staffies listed in and around Doncaster today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is RAIN Rescue at Misson, about 9 miles away. Many rescue fees are under £500: Dogs Trust charges £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.
