About Staffies in Sheffield

When we checked on 29 October 2026, four Staffies were listed near Sheffield: two at Thornberry Animal Sanctuary in North Anston, about ten miles from Sheffield, one with Greenleaf Animal Rescue, listed at Wakefield, and one with RAIN Rescue at Misson, both about 21 miles from Sheffield. Thornberry's adoption and rehoming centre on Todwick Road is open by appointment only, and visitors cannot bring their own dogs on site, apart from guide and assistance dogs. For the older dogs, the Senior Staffy Club rehomes Staffies throughout the UK from private kennels in Worcestershire and Staffordshire or from foster homes, for £120 a dog or £180 for a bonded pair with five weeks of insurance, and it does not rehome where there are children under five.

What Staffies are like to live with

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a British breed. The Royal Kennel Club says it was developed in the Black Country of Staffordshire and northern parts of Birmingham, and was recognised in the 1930s. It sums the breed up as "highly intelligent and affectionate especially with children", and says the breed standard notes its intelligence and affinity with children.

How many rescue Staffies are available for adoption in Chesterfield?

As of 8 November 2026, 7 Staffies are listed for adoption in and around Chesterfield on LocalPetFinder, from Ashbourne Animal Welfare, Greenleaf Animal Rescue, RAIN Rescue and Thornberry Animal Sanctuary. All are with rescues reachable from Chesterfield, each shown with its town and distance. Each profile links to the rescue, and you apply to adopt with them directly.

Which rescues near Chesterfield have Staffies right now, and how old are they?

As of 8 November 2026, Ashbourne Animal Welfare (at Ashbourne, about 20 miles away): 4, Thornberry Animal Sanctuary (at North Anston, about 12 miles away): 1, RAIN Rescue (at Misson, about 24 miles away): 1 and Greenleaf Animal Rescue (at Wakefield, about 31 miles away): 1. By age, that is 1 puppy, 4 adult dogs and 2 older dogs. The newest was added on 29 October 2026. Each profile links to the rescue, which handles the adoption.

Where can I adopt a Staffy in Chesterfield?

With the rescue that has the dog. Today the Staffies on this page are with Ashbourne Animal Welfare (4), Greenleaf Animal Rescue (1), RAIN Rescue (1) and Thornberry Animal Sanctuary (1). Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.

Are Staffies a banned breed in the UK?

No. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is not a banned type. The banned types are the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro and XL Bully, and gov.uk says a dog's type is judged on what it looks like rather than its breed or name. Rescues cannot rehome a banned type, so none are listed on LocalPetFinder.

Are Staffies good with children?

Often, but not always. The Royal Kennel Club describes the breed as "affectionate especially with children", while PDSA notes Staffies are very high energy and might not suit families with younger children. Ask the rescue whether this dog has lived with children and what age of children they would rehome it with; the rescue's assessment of the dog matters more than the breed.

How much does it cost to adopt a Staffy in Chesterfield?

The Staffies listed in and around Chesterfield today are with Ashbourne Animal Welfare at Ashbourne, about 20 miles away (4), Thornberry Animal Sanctuary at North Anston, about 12 miles away (1), RAIN Rescue at Misson, about 24 miles away (1) and 1 other rescue; each profile shows that rescue's fee. Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Are there Staffy puppies for sale in Chesterfield?

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Staffy on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. The 7 Staffies listed in and around Chesterfield today are with Ashbourne Animal Welfare at Ashbourne, about 20 miles away (4), Thornberry Animal Sanctuary at North Anston, about 12 miles away (1), RAIN Rescue at Misson, about 24 miles away (1) and 1 other rescue, and each rescue shows its own fee on the profile. For comparison, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. If you searched "staffy puppies for sale Chesterfield", the Staffies here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Can I get a free Staffy to a good home in Chesterfield, or one under £500?

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 7 Staffies listed in and around Chesterfield today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is Thornberry Animal Sanctuary at North Anston, about 12 miles away. Many rescue fees are under £500: Dogs Trust charges £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.

Are there Staffy puppies for adoption in Chesterfield?

Yes: 1 puppy of the 7 listed in and around Chesterfield is 12 months or under by their listed age.

Are there older Staffies for adoption in Chesterfield?

Yes: 2 of the 7 listed in and around Chesterfield are aged 7 or over by their listed age. Some rescues charge less for older dogs: Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over.
