What Springer Spaniels are like to live with

The Royal Kennel Club calls the English Springer "the most popular of the spaniels for working in the field". It says Springers earned their name from "springing" forward to flush game into nets, and that the breed was once called the Norfolk Spaniel. Liver and white is the most popular colour, with black and white and tri-colours less common. The breed standard describes a "friendly, happy disposition, biddable", and says timidity or aggression is unacceptable.

Springer Spaniels listed in England today

As of 8 November 2026, 6 Springer Spaniels are listed with rescues in England on LocalPetFinder: by their listed age, 2 puppies aged 12 months or under, 3 adults and 1 aged 7 or over.

3 of them are listed as a cross, as the rescue describes it: Springer Spaniel Cross (3). Breed labels on rescue listings are often a best guess from looks.

The rescues mark 3 as able to live with children, 1 with cats and 4 with other dogs. Where a profile says nothing, it doesn't mean no: ask the rescue.

By age, that is 2 puppies, 3 adult dogs and 1 older dog. The newest was added on 7 November 2026. Each profile links to the rescue, which handles the adoption.

Where can I adopt a Springer Spaniel in England?

With the rescue that has the dog. Today the Springer Spaniels on this page are with Forest of Dean Dog Rescue (2), Ashbourne Animal Welfare (1), Hairy Hounz (1), Margaret Green Animal Rescue (Wingletang) (1) and Warrington Animal Welfare (1). Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.

How much exercise does a Springer Spaniel need?

More than two hours a day, according to The Royal Kennel Club and PDSA. Dogs Trust adds plenty of time to explore and play. Ask the rescue about this dog, as age and health make a difference.

Are Springer Spaniels good family dogs?

Often, yes. PDSA says Springers make good family dogs and get along well with children and other household pets, though their energy needs an active home. Go by the rescue's assessment of the individual dog with children, which is often on the profile.

Are Springer Spaniels good with children?

It depends on the dog, not the breed. Today the rescues mark 3 of the 6 Springer Spaniels listed in England as able to live with children. Where a profile says nothing, ask the rescue what age of children the dog could live with.

How much does it cost to adopt a Springer Spaniel in England?

The Springer Spaniels listed in England today are with Forest of Dean Dog Rescue at Bream (2), Ashbourne Animal Welfare at Ashbourne (1), Hairy Hounz at North Baddesley (1) and 2 other rescues; each profile shows that rescue's fee. Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Are there Springer Spaniel puppies for sale in England?

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Springer Spaniel on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. The 6 Springer Spaniels listed in England today are with Forest of Dean Dog Rescue at Bream (2), Ashbourne Animal Welfare at Ashbourne (1), Hairy Hounz at North Baddesley (1) and 2 other rescues, and each rescue shows its own fee on the profile. For comparison, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. If you searched "springer spaniel puppies for sale England", the Springer Spaniels here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Can I get a free Springer Spaniel to a good home in England, or one under £500?

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 6 Springer Spaniels listed in England today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is Forest of Dean Dog Rescue at Bream. Many rescue fees are under £500: Dogs Trust charges £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.

Are there Springer Spaniel puppies for adoption in England?

Yes: 2 puppies of the 6 listed in England are 12 months or under by their listed age.

Are there older Springer Spaniels for adoption in England?

Yes: 1 of the 6 listed in England is aged 7 or over by their listed age. Some rescues charge less for older dogs: Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over.
