Yes. Lucy's Law stops third-party sales, not rescues. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

They should be microchipped. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped and registered by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a puppy can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped. At the large charities the fee also pays for first vaccinations. Dogs Trust's fee includes a health check, vaccinations, worming and other treatments, neutering (or a neutering voucher), microchipping, a collar and lead, food and four weeks' free Petplan insurance. A young puppy may still have vaccinations to finish, so ask the rescue which it has had and what is still due.

As of 8 November 2026, the 11 puppies listed in and around Sefton are: 1 under six months and 10 aged six to 12 months, by the rescues' listed ages. We count a dog as a puppy up to 12 months. Some rescues charge a higher fee for a puppy under six months, so check the fee on each profile. Each puppy's rescue can tell you what it has learned so far.

It depends on the dog, not its size or age. As of 8 November 2026, the rescues mark 3 of the 11 puppies listed in and around Sefton as able to live with children, 1 with cats and 4 with other dogs. Where a profile says nothing, ask the rescue, and supervise early meetings with children whatever the dog.

Not here: we only list dogs with rescues, so every puppy listed here is adopted for the rescue's fee, which usually covers vet work already done. Whether to buy is your choice. Adopting means the rescue can tell you what it knows about the puppy's history and health before you apply. If you decide to buy, The Royal Kennel Club runs a Find a Puppy service, and Dogs Trust's breed guides suggest talking to your vet first: they say some practices offer pre-purchase consultations on likely health conditions and rough costs.
