Rescue Remedies, which describes itself as based in the London, Surrey and Sussex area and runs a separate Staffie Rescue website, had 13 of them. For an older dog, the Senior Staffy Club rehomes Staffies throughout the UK from private kennels in Worcestershire and Staffordshire or from foster homes, and you visit the dog twice before adopting. Its fee is £120 for one dog or £180 for a bonded pair, with five weeks of insurance. It does not rehome where there are children under five, and renters must show a tenancy agreement that allows dogs.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a British breed. The Royal Kennel Club says it was developed in the Black Country of Staffordshire and northern parts of Birmingham, and was recognised in the 1930s. It sums the breed up as "highly intelligent and affectionate especially with children", and says the breed standard notes its intelligence and affinity with children.
As of 8 November 2026, 23 Staffies are listed with rescues in and around Guildford on LocalPetFinder: by their listed age, 1 puppy aged 12 months or under, 13 adults and 7 aged 7 or over. The rest have no age we can read, so check the profile.
18 of them are listed as a cross, as the rescue describes it: Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross (8), Staffy x Bulldog (3) and Staffy x Mastiff (2) and others. Breed labels on rescue listings are often a best guess from looks.
The rescues mark 5 as able to live with children and 1 with cats. Where a profile says nothing, it doesn't mean no: ask the rescue.

Breed descriptions are general. Every rescue animal is an individual, so the rescue's own assessment of the animal comes first.

Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.
No. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is not a banned type. The banned types are the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro and XL Bully, and gov.uk says a dog's type is judged on what it looks like rather than its breed or name. Rescues cannot rehome a banned type, so none are listed on LocalPetFinder.
Often, but not always. The Royal Kennel Club describes the breed as "affectionate especially with children", while PDSA notes Staffies are very high energy and might not suit families with younger children. Ask the rescue whether this dog has lived with children and what age of children they would rehome it with; the rescue's assessment of the dog matters more than the breed.

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Staffy on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. If you searched "staffy puppies for sale Guildford", the Staffies here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.
Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 23 Staffies listed in and around Guildford today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is Rescue Remedies at Smallfield, about 20 miles away. Many rescue fees are under £500: Battersea charges £230 for a dog over six months, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.
