What Cockapoos are like to live with

A Cockapoo is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, as Dogs Trust puts it, not a breed. It isn't on The Royal Kennel Club's Breeds A to Z, so there is no breed standard and no breed page setting out its size or temperament. The Royal Kennel Club's guide to crossbreeds calls these "designer dogs" and says crossbreeds often have a mix of their parents' traits, and that it is often "difficult to predict what the puppies will look like or what their temperament will be". Any one Cockapoo can take after the Cocker, the Poodle, or both.

Breed descriptions are general. Every rescue animal is an individual, so the rescue's own assessment of the animal comes first.

Cockapoos in Northern Ireland: your questions

Tap a question to expand

How many rescue Cockapoos are available for adoption in Northern Ireland?

As of 8 November 2026, no Cockapoos are listed for adoption in Northern Ireland on LocalPetFinder. Rescues add animals all the time, so this page fills as they list them.

Is a Cockapoo a breed?

No. A Cockapoo is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, according to Dogs Trust, and it is not on The Royal Kennel Club's Breeds A to Z, so it has no breed standard. The Royal Kennel Club says crossbreeds often mix their parents' traits, so size, coat and temperament vary from dog to dog.

Are Cockapoos hypoallergenic?

No. Battersea says Cockapoos are "not hypoallergenic as coat type varies a lot and no dog is fully allergy-friendly". Doodle Trust says a puppy coat can change in adulthood. If someone at home has allergies, ask the rescue whether you can spend time with the adult dog first.

How much does it cost to adopt a Cockapoo in Northern Ireland?

Each rescue sets its own adoption fee, and Dogs Trust charges £287.50 for a puppy or adult dog in Northern Ireland (where you also need a dog licence). The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Are there Cockapoo puppies for sale in Northern Ireland?

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Cockapoo on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. Rescues rehome animals rather than selling them, usually for an adoption fee: for example, Dogs Trust £287.50 in Northern Ireland. The fee usually goes towards vet work already done, such as neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations. If you searched "cockapoo puppies for sale Northern Ireland", the Cockapoos here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price.

Can I get a free Cockapoo to a good home in Northern Ireland, or one under £500?

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Many rescue fees are under £500: Dogs Trust charges £287.50 for a puppy or adult dog. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. In Northern Ireland all dogs must be microchipped at eight weeks old, so ask to see the microchip details (see nidirect).

Are there Cockapoo puppies for adoption in Northern Ireland?

Not right now: no Cockapoos are listed in Northern Ireland today, so there are no puppies either. Puppies do get listed, and rescues can tell you much more about an adult's character, so check back.

Is there a Cockapoo rescue near me in Northern Ireland?

This page lists every Cockapoo with the rescues we list in Northern Ireland and the places within it. To see what is closest to you, search by postcode with the pet finder on our home page. To hear when one is listed, set up an email alert on this page.
