What Cockapoos are like to live with
A Cockapoo is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, as Dogs Trust puts it, not a breed. It isn't on The Royal Kennel Club's Breeds A to Z, so there is no breed standard and no breed page setting out its size or temperament. The Royal Kennel Club's guide to crossbreeds calls these "designer dogs" and says crossbreeds often have a mix of their parents' traits, and that it is often "difficult to predict what the puppies will look like or what their temperament will be". Any one Cockapoo can take after the Cocker, the Poodle, or both.
Sources (checked 16 October 2026)
- Battersea: Cockapoo (Dogs Trust figures from its Poodle page, also in sources. A cross varies, so these are guides, not a standard.)

Breed descriptions are general. Every rescue animal is an individual, so the rescue's own assessment of the animal comes first.

Where can I adopt a Cockapoo in Birmingham?
With the rescue that has the dog. Today the Cockapoos on this page are with Paws A While Shelter (1) and Small Dog Rescue (1). Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.
Is a Cockapoo a breed?
No. A Cockapoo is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, according to Dogs Trust, and it is not on The Royal Kennel Club's Breeds A to Z, so it has no breed standard. The Royal Kennel Club says crossbreeds often mix their parents' traits, so size, coat and temperament vary from dog to dog.
Are Cockapoos hypoallergenic?
No. Battersea says Cockapoos are "not hypoallergenic as coat type varies a lot and no dog is fully allergy-friendly". Doodle Trust says a puppy coat can change in adulthood. If someone at home has allergies, ask the rescue whether you can spend time with the adult dog first.
Are Cockapoos good with children?
It depends on the dog, not the breed. None of the 2 Cockapoos listed in and around Birmingham is marked by its rescue as able to live with children today. Where a profile says nothing, ask the rescue what age of children the dog could live with.
How much does it cost to adopt a Cockapoo in Birmingham?
The Cockapoos listed in and around Birmingham today are with Small Dog Rescue at Aldridge, about 8 miles away (1) and Paws A While Shelter at Alrewas, about 18 miles away (1); each profile shows that rescue's fee. Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.
Are there Cockapoo puppies for sale in Birmingham?
No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Cockapoo on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. The 2 Cockapoos listed in and around Birmingham today are with Small Dog Rescue at Aldridge, about 8 miles away (1) and Paws A While Shelter at Alrewas, about 18 miles away (1), and each rescue shows its own fee on the profile. For comparison, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. If you searched "cockapoo puppies for sale Birmingham", the Cockapoos here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.
Can I get a free Cockapoo to a good home in Birmingham, or one under £500?
Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 2 Cockapoos listed in and around Birmingham today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is Small Dog Rescue at Aldridge, about 8 miles away. Many rescue fees are under £500: Dogs Trust charges £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.
Are there Cockapoo puppies for adoption in Birmingham?
Not right now: none of the 2 listed in and around Birmingham is under a year old by its listed age. Puppies do get listed, so check back or look at the adults, whose rescues can tell you much more about their character.
