The Royal Kennel Club lists the Malinois as the Belgian Shepherd Dog (Malinois), a "versatile herding and armed services dog". It says these dogs are agile and fast, are widely used by the police and armed forces, and "have an appetite for work, being watchful, wary and highly intelligent".
That describes the breed, not one dog. A rescue Malinois may be a cross, and each has its own history. The rescue knows how this particular dog behaves at home, on the lead and with visitors, so ask them.

The Royal Kennel Club lists the Malinois as medium to large and needing more than two hours of exercise a day. It suggests a large house with a large garden, in town or country.
Grooming
The Royal Kennel Club lists the coat length as medium and describes the Malinois coat as "dense, short". It sheds, and it suggests grooming more than once a week.
Health
The Royal Kennel Club asks Malinois breeders to have hips and elbows scored for dysplasia and to have eyes tested. It lists the breed's lifespan as over 10 years.
A rescue dog's parents were rarely health tested, so ask the rescue what vet checks the dog has had and whether any condition is known. Your own vet is the right person to advise on anything you notice later.

The four Belgian Shepherd varieties
