The Border Collie takes its name from the border regions of England, Scotland and Wales, where it worked sheep in the hills. The Royal Kennel Club calls it a "naturally active and intelligent herding specialist and all-round worker", says it is still seen working sheep and cattle, and says it "needs to be engaged to lead a fulfilled life".
