The Whippet is a sighthound, a dog that hunts by sight. The Royal Kennel Club describes it as a "small, speedy sighthound traditionally used for racing", says it originated from the Greyhound, and says Whippet racing became popular in the mining areas of the North and Wales, as well as in London and the Midlands. At home it is a different dog: The Royal Kennel Club says that "as a family companion, the Whippet is gentle and affectionate and enjoys the comforts of domestic life".

With the rescue that has the dog. Today the Whippets on this page are with Paws and People (2), Little Paws Rescue NI (1) and The Barn Animal Rescue (1). Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.
Up to an hour a day, according to The Royal Kennel Club. PDSA says a minimum of an hour, split into a couple of walks, with a chance for a really good run off lead in a secure area. A rescue dog's needs can differ, so ask the rescue about this one.
Yes, but not much. The Royal Kennel Club says the Whippet's short coat sheds and needs grooming about once a week, and Dogs Trust describes "short length with low shedding".
It depends on the dog, not the breed. Today the rescues mark 2 of the 4 Whippets listed in Northern Ireland as able to live with children. Where a profile says nothing, ask the rescue what age of children the dog could live with.
