What Yorkies are like to live with

The Yorkshire Terrier is a toy breed with a working past. The Royal Kennel Club describes it as a "silky toy terrier with roots in the Yorkshire cotton mills", and says it is thought that Scottish workers who came to the mines and mills of Yorkshire brought their terriers with them. It adds that the Yorkie became popular as a house pet but "still retains some of the features of his terrier background".

Which rescues near Luton have Yorkies right now, and how old are they?

As of 8 November 2026, All Dogs Matter (at Waltham Abbey, about 23 miles away): 1 and Foal Farm Animal Rescue (at London, about 29 miles away): 1. By age, that is 1 puppy and 1 adult dog. The newest was added on 6 November 2026. Each profile links to the rescue, which handles the adoption.

Where can I adopt a Yorkie in Luton?

With the rescue that has the dog. Today the Yorkies on this page are with All Dogs Matter (1) and Foal Farm Animal Rescue (1). Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.

Do Yorkshire Terriers shed?

Very little. The Royal Kennel Club lists the breed as not shedding, and Dogs Trust describes "long length with low shedding". The long coat still needs grooming every day.

How much exercise does a Yorkie need?

Up to 30 minutes a day, according to The Royal Kennel Club, and around 30 to 40 minutes according to PDSA. The Royal Kennel Club lists the Yorkie as a small dog that can live in a flat, in town or country.

Are Yorkies good with children?

It depends on the dog, not the breed. Today the rescues mark 1 of the 2 Yorkies listed in and around Luton as able to live with children. Where a profile says nothing, ask the rescue what age of children the dog could live with.

How much does it cost to adopt a Yorkie in Luton?

The Yorkies listed in and around Luton today are with All Dogs Matter at Waltham Abbey, about 23 miles away (1) and Foal Farm Animal Rescue at London, about 29 miles away (1); each profile shows that rescue's fee. Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Battersea charges £230 for a dog over six months and £275 for a puppy under six months, Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Are there Yorkie puppies for sale in Luton?

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Yorkie on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. The 2 Yorkies listed in and around Luton today are with All Dogs Matter at Waltham Abbey, about 23 miles away (1) and Foal Farm Animal Rescue at London, about 29 miles away (1), and each rescue shows its own fee on the profile. For comparison, Battersea charges £230 for a dog over six months and £275 for a puppy under six months, and Dogs Trust £300. If you searched "yorkie puppies for sale Luton", the Yorkies here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Can I get a free Yorkie to a good home in Luton, or one under £500?

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 2 Yorkies listed in and around Luton today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is All Dogs Matter at Waltham Abbey, about 23 miles away. Many rescue fees are under £500: Battersea charges £230 for a dog over six months, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.

Are there Yorkie puppies for adoption in Luton?

Yes: 1 puppy of the 2 listed in and around Luton is 12 months or under by their listed age.

Are there older Yorkies for adoption in Luton?
