What Cane Corsos are like to live with

PDSA describes the Cane Corso as a mastiff type, thought to have descended from a Roman war dog, that later worked as a hunter and on farms, guarding and rounding up livestock. Dogs Trust says the breed is sometimes called the Italian Mastiff, and that Cane Corsos are very large, muscular and typically energetic.

By age, that is 9 adult dogs and 2 older dogs. The newest was added on 7 November 2026. Each profile links to the rescue, which handles the adoption.

Where can I adopt a Cane Corso in Luton?

With the rescue that has the dog. Today the Cane Corsos on this page are with Rescue Remedies (9), Foal Farm Animal Rescue (1) and National Animal Welfare Trust Bedfordshire (1). Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.

Is the Cane Corso banned in the UK?

No. The banned types listed on gov.uk are the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro and XL Bully, and the Cane Corso is not one of them. Battersea says Cane Corsos are legal to own in the UK. Gov.uk says a banned type is judged on what the dog looks like rather than its breed or name.

Is the Cane Corso recognised by The Royal Kennel Club?

No. The Cane Corso is not on The Royal Kennel Club's Breeds A to Z, its full list of recognised pedigree breeds, including those on its Imported Breed Register. That means there is no Royal Kennel Club breed standard for it, and UK breed advice comes from charities such as PDSA, Battersea and Dogs Trust.

How much does it cost to adopt a Cane Corso in Luton?

The Cane Corsos listed in and around Luton today are with Rescue Remedies at Smallfield, about 29 miles away (9), National Animal Welfare Trust Bedfordshire at Aspley Guise, about 13 miles away (1) and Foal Farm Animal Rescue at London, about 29 miles away (1); each profile shows that rescue's fee. Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Battersea charges £230 for a dog over six months and £275 for a puppy under six months, Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Are there Cane Corso puppies for sale in Luton?

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Cane Corso on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. The 11 Cane Corsos listed in and around Luton today are with Rescue Remedies at Smallfield, about 29 miles away (9), National Animal Welfare Trust Bedfordshire at Aspley Guise, about 13 miles away (1) and Foal Farm Animal Rescue at London, about 29 miles away (1), and each rescue shows its own fee on the profile. For comparison, Battersea charges £230 for a dog over six months and £275 for a puppy under six months, and Dogs Trust £300. If you searched "cane corso puppies for sale Luton", the Cane Corsos here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Can I get a free Cane Corso to a good home in Luton, or one under £500?

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 11 Cane Corsos listed in and around Luton today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is National Animal Welfare Trust Bedfordshire at Aspley Guise, about 13 miles away. Many rescue fees are under £500: Battersea charges £230 for a dog over six months, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.

Are there Cane Corso puppies for adoption in Luton?

Not right now: none of the 11 listed in and around Luton is under a year old by its listed age. Puppies do get listed, so check back or look at the adults, whose rescues can tell you much more about their character.

Are there older Cane Corsos for adoption in Luton?

Yes: 2 of the 11 listed in and around Luton are aged 7 or over by their listed age. Some rescues charge less for older dogs: Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over.
