Yes. Lucy's Law stops third-party sales, not rescues. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that kittens under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Yes, in England. Since 10 June 2024 cats must be microchipped before they are 20 weeks old and registered on a database. Check the kitten's profile or ask the rescue whether it has been chipped.

At the large charities, the fee pays for that vet work. Cats Protection says its cats are vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated and neutered (or come with a neutering voucher if they are young kittens), with a vet health check and four weeks' free insurance. Smaller rescues set their own terms, so ask what a particular kitten has had and whether a vaccination or neutering is still due.

Not here: we only list cats with rescues, so every kitten listed here is adopted for the rescue's fee, which usually covers vet work already done. Whether to buy is your choice. Adopting means the rescue can tell you what it knows about the kitten's history and health before you apply. If you decide to buy a pedigree kitten, Cats Protection suggests a breeder registered with a breed association such as the GCCF, and seeing the kitten with its mother at home rather than buying from a video or social media advert.

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. In England, cats must be microchipped before they are 20 weeks old, so ask to see the microchip details.
