Yes, more than short-haired cats. Cats Protection says long-haired cats need brushing daily to prevent tangles and mats, while short-haired cats need about a weekly brush. PDSA says domestic longhairs have a much longer coat which requires regular grooming.

Take the cat to a vet. Cats Protection says not to brush or cut mats out yourself, because knots close to the skin can tear it, and scissors are especially dangerous. A vet can clip the mats under sedation.

It depends on the cat, not the breed. Today the rescues mark 3 of the 13 domestic longhair cats listed in and around Wigan as able to live with children. Where a profile says nothing, ask the rescue what age of children the cat could live with.
