About Pugs in Birmingham

No Pugs were listed near Birmingham when we checked on 29 October 2026, so the Pug charities are the route for Birmingham adopters. The Pug Dog Welfare & Rescue Association takes applications across England and Wales apart from parts of the South West, and matches each Pug from its waiting list, so waits vary. It especially welcomes homes for Pugs aged seven and over, bonded pairs and dogs with behavioural or special needs. Its minimum donations run from £500 for a Pug under one to £100 for one aged 11 or over, and its adoptions now come with five weeks of insurance from Agria.

National Pug Protection Trust puts accepted applicants on a list and calls when a suitable dog needs a home. It takes people over 21 living in the UK or the Channel Islands, but not households with children under five or anyone away from home more than five hours a day. Its home check is a virtual tour of about an hour, followed by a virtual meet and greet with the foster carer. Pug Life Rescue rescues Pugs and Pug crosses across the UK, with fees by age from £500 for a Pug under one to £200 for one aged 11 or over, and its Pugs cannot be left alone regularly for more than three hours.

What Pugs are like to live with

The Pug is a companion dog. The Royal Kennel Club describes it as "a lot of dog in a small frame", and says Pugs "are affectionate, sociable dogs that thrive on human company and were bred purely as companions, not for work". It says traders from the Dutch East India Company are thought to have taken dogs of this type from China to the Netherlands in the 16th century, and that William of Orange's Pugs came with him when he took the English throne.

Pugs in Walsall: your questions

Tap a question to expand

How many rescue Pugs are available for adoption in Walsall?

As of 8 November 2026, no Pugs are listed for adoption in and around Walsall on LocalPetFinder. Rescues add animals all the time, so this page fills as they list them.

Do Pugs have breathing problems?

Breathing is a recognised concern in the breed. The Royal Kennel Club asks Pug breeders to have their dogs' breathing graded for BOAS (brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome), and says the flat face limits a Pug's tolerance for heat and hard exercise. PDSA says snorts, snores and loud breathing can be a sign of BOAS and are worth a word with a vet. Ask the rescue what vet checks this dog has had.

Can Pugs be left alone?

Not for long. The Royal Kennel Club says Pugs dislike being left alone for long periods and can be prone to separation anxiety, and PDSA says a Pug should never be left for longer than four hours. Ask the rescue how this dog copes on its own.

How much does it cost to adopt a Pug in Walsall?

Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Are there Pug puppies for sale in Walsall?

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Pug on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. Rescues rehome animals rather than selling them, usually for an adoption fee: for example, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. The fee usually goes towards vet work already done, such as neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations. If you searched "pug puppies for sale Walsall", the Pugs here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Can I get a free Pug to a good home in Walsall, or one under £500?

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Many rescue fees are under £500: Dogs Trust charges £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.

Are there Pug puppies for adoption in Walsall?

Not right now: no Pugs are listed in and around Walsall today, so there are no puppies either. Puppies do get listed, and rescues can tell you much more about an adult's character, so check back.
