Dominik

Dominik originally arrived with us as a 14 week old puppy. He was adopted out but recently was returned to us as he wasn't getting on with the other dog in the home. He is now looking for his forever home. Dom is a sweet, but nervous lad that is quite bewildered here at the rescue. He is settling with staff but he can be nervous with new people and places. He will need a quiet home where he can gradualy settle and take things at his pace. He is looking at an adult only home at the moment due to his nervousness, we will reassess this as we get to know him. Dom is looking to be the only dog in the home due to his behaviour with the previous dog. He hasn't had much exposure when it comes to seeing or meeting other dogs on walks so he requires slow positive socialisation gradually over time. He can be vocal towards dogs if he is unsure, but with the correct handling and guidance, he will pass dogs unfazed. He wasn't walked on lead very much in his previous home so can be strong at times, so is looking for a confident new owner to put time into improving his lead work and basic training requirements. Due to his breed, we are looking for an experienced person who understands the general traits of the breed regarding guarding tendancies and correct handling when out and about on walks. Dom travels well in the car and is fine at the vets, but can be nervous of his nails being trimmed, so requires a certain amount of desensitisation to make him more comfortable. He likes his toys and will happily chase a ball whilst enjoying a good run around in the paddock. He does have a pray drive and will chase squirrels and cats, but will generally ignore most livestock. He had his cherry eyes operated on recently but unfortunately they have re-occured. This is purely cosmetic and doesn't affect him at all and further information on this will be given to anyone interested. He likes to sleep in the day and is a fairly chilled lad, who would love a big comfy sofa to himself. We hope he finds his new sofa companion soon..
