What Cockapoos are like to live with
A Cockapoo is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, as Dogs Trust puts it, not a breed. It isn't on The Royal Kennel Club's Breeds A to Z, so there is no breed standard and no breed page setting out its size or temperament. The Royal Kennel Club's guide to crossbreeds calls these "designer dogs" and says crossbreeds often have a mix of their parents' traits, and that it is often "difficult to predict what the puppies will look like or what their temperament will be". Any one Cockapoo can take after the Cocker, the Poodle, or both.
Sources (checked 16 October 2026)
- Battersea: Cockapoo (Dogs Trust figures from its Poodle page, also in sources. A cross varies, so these are guides, not a standard.)

Breed descriptions are general. Every rescue animal is an individual, so the rescue's own assessment of the animal comes first.

How many rescue Cockapoos are available for adoption in Essex?
As of 7 November 2026, 2 Cockapoos are listed for adoption in Essex on LocalPetFinder, from All Dogs Matter and Pro Dogs Direct. Each profile links to the rescue, and you apply to adopt with them directly.
Which rescues near Essex have Cockapoos right now, and how old are they?
As of 7 November 2026, All Dogs Matter (at Waltham Abbey): 1 and Pro Dogs Direct (at Grays): 1. The newest was added on 30 October 2026. Each profile links to the rescue, which handles the adoption.
Where can I adopt a Cockapoo in Essex?
With the rescue that has the dog. Today the Cockapoos on this page are with All Dogs Matter (1) and Pro Dogs Direct (1). Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.
Is a Cockapoo a breed?
No. A Cockapoo is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, according to Dogs Trust, and it is not on The Royal Kennel Club's Breeds A to Z, so it has no breed standard. The Royal Kennel Club says crossbreeds often mix their parents' traits, so size, coat and temperament vary from dog to dog.
Are Cockapoos hypoallergenic?
No. Battersea says Cockapoos are "not hypoallergenic as coat type varies a lot and no dog is fully allergy-friendly". Doodle Trust says a puppy coat can change in adulthood. If someone at home has allergies, ask the rescue whether you can spend time with the adult dog first.
Are Cockapoos good with children?
It depends on the dog, not the breed. Today the rescues mark 1 of the 2 Cockapoos listed in Essex as able to live with children. Where a profile says nothing, ask the rescue what age of children the dog could live with.
How much does it cost to adopt a Cockapoo in Essex?
The Cockapoos listed in Essex today are with All Dogs Matter at Waltham Abbey (1) and Pro Dogs Direct at Grays (1); each profile shows that rescue's fee. Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.
Are there Cockapoo puppies for sale in Essex?
No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Cockapoo on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. The 2 Cockapoos listed in Essex today are with All Dogs Matter at Waltham Abbey (1) and Pro Dogs Direct at Grays (1), and each rescue shows its own fee on the profile. For comparison, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. If you searched "cockapoo puppies for sale Essex", the Cockapoos here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.
Can I get a free Cockapoo to a good home in Essex, or one under £500?
Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 2 Cockapoos listed in Essex today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is All Dogs Matter at Waltham Abbey. Many rescue fees are under £500: Dogs Trust charges £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.
Are there Cockapoo puppies for adoption in Essex?
Not right now: none of the 2 listed in Essex is under a year old by its listed age. Puppies do get listed, so check back or look at the adults, whose rescues can tell you much more about their character.
Are there older Cockapoos for adoption in Essex?
Not right now: none of the 2 listed in Essex is aged 7 or over by its listed age. Older Cockapoos do come into rescue, so check back. Some rescues charge less for older dogs: Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over.
