What Poodles are like to live with

The Royal Kennel Club calls the Poodle a "glamorous, intelligent breed descended from European duck hunters". It says the breed originates in Germany as a water retriever, and that the famous trim is "traditional and very practical": the hindquarters were clipped to help the dog swim, and bands of hair were left on the joints and tail tip for protection from cold.

How many rescue Poodles are available for adoption in Essex?

As of 8 November 2026, 3 Poodles are listed for adoption in Essex on LocalPetFinder, from All Dogs Matter, Many Tears Animal Rescue and Pro Dogs Direct. Each profile links to the rescue, and you apply to adopt with them directly.

Which rescues near Essex have Poodles right now, and how old are they?

As of 8 November 2026, All Dogs Matter (at Waltham Abbey): 1, Many Tears Animal Rescue (at Chelmsford): 1 and Pro Dogs Direct (at Grays): 1. By age, that is 2 adult dogs and 1 older dog. The newest was added on 30 October 2026. Each profile links to the rescue, which handles the adoption.

Where can I adopt a Poodle in Essex?

With the rescue that has the dog. Today the Poodles on this page are with All Dogs Matter (1), Many Tears Animal Rescue (1) and Pro Dogs Direct (1). Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.

Do Poodles shed?

The Royal Kennel Club lists all three Poodle sizes as not shedding, and Dogs Trust describes low shedding, but the coat needs grooming every day and professional clipping from time to time. Doodle Trust says no dog is allergy friendly, so if someone at home has allergies, ask the rescue whether you can spend time with the dog first.

What is the difference between Standard, Miniature and Toy Poodles?

Size. The Royal Kennel Club recognises three varieties that share one breed standard: the Standard is over 38 cm at the shoulder, the Miniature between 28 and 38 cm, and the Toy under 28 cm. All three need up to an hour of exercise a day and grooming every day.

Are Poodles good with children?

It depends on the dog, not the breed. Today the rescues mark 1 of the 3 Poodles listed in Essex as able to live with children. Where a profile says nothing, ask the rescue what age of children the dog could live with.

How much does it cost to adopt a Poodle in Essex?

The Poodles listed in Essex today are with All Dogs Matter at Waltham Abbey (1), Many Tears Animal Rescue at Chelmsford (1) and Pro Dogs Direct at Grays (1); each profile shows that rescue's fee. Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Are there Poodle puppies for sale in Essex?

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Poodle on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. The 3 Poodles listed in Essex today are with All Dogs Matter at Waltham Abbey (1), Many Tears Animal Rescue at Chelmsford (1) and Pro Dogs Direct at Grays (1), and each rescue shows its own fee on the profile. For comparison, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. If you searched "poodle puppies for sale Essex", the Poodles here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Can I get a free Poodle to a good home in Essex, or one under £500?

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 3 Poodles listed in Essex today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is All Dogs Matter at Waltham Abbey. Many rescue fees are under £500: Dogs Trust charges £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.

Are there Poodle puppies for adoption in Essex?

Not right now: none of the 3 listed in Essex is under a year old by its listed age. Puppies do get listed, so check back or look at the adults, whose rescues can tell you much more about their character.

Are there older Poodles for adoption in Essex?

Yes: 1 of the 3 listed in Essex is aged 7 or over by their listed age. Some rescues charge less for older dogs: Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over.

Is there a Poodle rescue near me in Essex?
