Pip

This lovely chap is called Pip, and he is a 9-month-old male Yorkshire Terrier cross who has a big personality and an even bigger heart. Pip is currently in foster care and his dedicated fosterers have discovered that he thrives on a consistent routine and is at his happiest when he has people close by so he can feel comfortable and secure. Once you get to know him Pip is affectionate, cheeky, clever and full of youthful energy! His fosterers put these lovely words together to outline an day in the life of Pip from his perspective: “Once we are all awake we play with my soft toys - Penguin, rabbit, octopus and seahorse will keep me busy for a while, as I like to make sure that they all get a fair share of my attention. Sometimes I like to play with (or carry) my toys on my own, and sometimes I will let you join in for a game of tug, or I might even bring them to you. My humans tell me I’m adorable, and my silliness makes them laugh, and I really like the fact that they know not to touch me when we’re playing like this as they know it worries me. For my meals, I like to have a mix of wet food, with dry food often from an enrichment toy. I love my food, which is super handy for helping me learn new skills! I am clever, quick to learn and very responsive to everything you tell me. I enjoy trying new (safe) foods like carrot and apple, and I've learned exactly what cheese being unwrapped sounds like - I will come to check if you're going to pay me the 'cheese tax'! As I’ve gotten to know and trust my humans, they can now brush my fur for short periods of time in return for some treats and lots of praise and reassurance (I love hearing you say ‘Good boy’), but I’m still uncomfortable with this at times especially around my face, so I would like to find a family who will understand this and be patient with me. I have a mix of energetic and sleepy times throughout the day. When I’m tired, I love to curl up at your feet, in touching distance or nearby to my favourite people. I enjoy cuddles, but I’m very much not a lap dog. “ Pip has had a lot of changes in his young life so we want to find him a patient and loving home with an adult only family who will have time to help him adjust into their family and over time develop his confidence around grooming and handling which he can find quite difficult. As Pip forms strong attachments to his people, his new family will need to be prepared to gradually introduce and build up his confidence with being left alone. He will need someone who understands that this will take time and who is willing to work at his pace, helping him learn that being apart from his people is nothing to worry about. Pip is a gorgeous young dog who has already shown how much progress he can make with the right support. He is certainly not without his challenges, but for the right family, this affectionate, intelligent and entertaining little boy could be a very special addition to their lives. So that he can truly thrive Pip is looking to be the only pet in an adult only home where there wouldn’t be any canine visitors.
