Cookie

Cookie is a classic hound with a big heart and a nose that’s always ready for adventure. Indoors, he is incredibly affectionate and forms strong attachments to his people very quickly, thriving on close companionship and reassurance. He loves being near his humans and enjoys a calm, comforting presence once he’s settled. Outdoors, Cookie’s true hound nature comes alive. His nose takes the lead, and he becomes curious and independent, happiest when following scents and exploring his surroundings. He would make a fantastic hiking companion and has all the qualities to excel in scent work or other activities that allow him to use his natural instincts, especially once given the time and patience to focus these skills. Cookie absolutely adores other dogs and truly thrives in their company. He gains confidence from having a canine companion and relaxes much more easily when another dog is around, so he must live in a home with a well-established, confident, and social dog who can help guide him. He has started learning how to settle indoors and is building his ability to enjoy calm downtime, but he will need a patient and understanding home that can continue to support him—particularly with gradually and thoughtfully introducing him to being left alone as he develops confidence. Cookie would be best suited to a dog-savvy home that understands hound behaviours and can provide him with plenty of regular exercise, mental enrichment, and ongoing guidance. While he could live with older children, he is not suitable for homes with cats or small furries due to his strong prey drive. With the right environment, patience, and companionship, Cookie has so much potential to flourish into a loving, loyal, and adventurous lifelong companion.
