What Ragdolls are like to live with

The Ragdoll is a large, semi-longhaired cat with blue eyes. The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF), which registers pedigree cats in the UK, says it has "an easy, laid-back temperament" and in general loves interaction with people and other animals, and that Ragdolls should be relaxed, gentle and easy to handle. They take up to four years to reach full maturity.

Breed descriptions are general. Every rescue animal is an individual, so the rescue's own assessment of the animal comes first.

Ragdolls in Test Valley: your questions

Tap a question to expand

How many rescue Ragdolls are available for adoption in Test Valley?

As of 8 November 2026, no Ragdolls are listed for adoption in and around Test Valley on LocalPetFinder. Rescues add animals all the time, so this page fills as they list them.

Do Ragdolls really go floppy when picked up?

Not as a rule. The GCCF says the floppiness that gave the breed its name is "pure hype", and that the claim Ragdolls have a low pain threshold is "positively dangerous", because Ragdolls are no different in their physical responses from any other breed. How relaxed a cat is depends a lot on how it was raised and handled.

Are Ragdolls lap cats?

Often. PDSA says Ragdolls are usually happy to jump onto your lap or into your bed to be close to you, and are unlikely to be far from you in the house. Ask the rescue how this cat likes to be handled.

How much does it cost to adopt a Ragdoll in Test Valley?

Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Cats Protection says you can expect to pay £80 to £120 on average for an adult cat and £100 to £120 for a kitten, varying between its branches, and Blue Cross fees start from £150 for cats aged 4 months to 7 years. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Are there Ragdoll kittens for sale in Test Valley?

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Ragdoll on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. Rescues rehome animals rather than selling them, usually for an adoption fee: for example, Cats Protection says £80 to £120 on average for an adult cat and £100 to £120 for a kitten. The fee usually goes towards vet work already done, such as neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations. If you searched "ragdoll kittens for sale Test Valley", the Ragdolls here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that kittens under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Can I get a free Ragdoll to a good home in Test Valley, or one under £100?

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. At the large cat charities, fees for one cat are under £200: Cats Protection says £80 to £120 on average for an adult cat and £100 to £120 for a kitten, and Blue Cross fees start from £150 for cats aged 4 months to 7 years. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. In England, cats must be microchipped before they are 20 weeks old, so ask to see the microchip details.

Are there Ragdoll kittens for adoption in Test Valley?

Not right now: no Ragdolls are listed in and around Test Valley today, so there are no kittens either. Kittens do get listed, and rescues can tell you much more about an adult's character, so check back.
