With the rescue that has the cat. Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.

They can, at some charities. In 2015 Cats Protection said black cats in its care took 13 per cent longer to be adopted than cats of other colours, and in October 2025 Battersea said black cats and kittens are still often overlooked, which can mean a longer than average stay in its care.

Battersea puts it down to longstanding superstitions about bad luck, together with modern worries that black cats are less photogenic for social media. Neither says anything about how a cat will be to live with.

It depends on the cat, not the breed. Today the rescues mark 3 of the 7 black cats listed in and around South Gloucestershire as able to live with children. Where a profile says nothing, ask the rescue what age of children the cat could live with.
