What Labradors are like to live with

The Royal Kennel Club calls the Labrador the "most popular of all pedigree breeds", and says that popularity comes from its "versatility as family companion, service dog, guide dog as well as a working gundog". It says the breed's roots are in Newfoundland, where dogs helped fishermen retrieve nets and lines; dogs brought back to England had their retrieving skills recognised by the sporting gentry, and the first breed club was founded in 1916.

How many rescue Labradors are available for adoption in Nottinghamshire?

As of 8 November 2026, 5 Labradors are listed for adoption in Nottinghamshire on LocalPetFinder, from Doggy Dens UK Rescue and RAIN Rescue. Each profile links to the rescue, and you apply to adopt with them directly.

Which rescues near Nottinghamshire have Labradors right now, and how old are they?

As of 8 November 2026, Doggy Dens UK Rescue (at Cuckney): 4 and RAIN Rescue (at Misson): 1. By age, that is 3 adult dogs and 2 older dogs. The newest was added on 20 October 2026. Each profile links to the rescue, which handles the adoption.

Where can I adopt a Labrador in Nottinghamshire?

With the rescue that has the dog. Today the Labradors on this page are with Doggy Dens UK Rescue (4) and RAIN Rescue (1). Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.

How much exercise does a Labrador need?

More than two hours a day, according to The Royal Kennel Club. It lists the breed as suited to a large house with a large garden. Dogs Trust calls Labradors typically high-energy. Ask the rescue how much this dog needs, as age and health make a difference.

Do Labradors shed?

Yes. The Royal Kennel Club lists the Labrador as a breed that sheds, with a short coat that needs grooming about once a week, and Dogs Trust rates its shedding as heavy.

Are Labradors good with children?

It depends on the dog, not the breed. Today the rescues mark 3 of the 5 Labradors listed in Nottinghamshire as able to live with children. Where a profile says nothing, ask the rescue what age of children the dog could live with.

How much does it cost to adopt a Labrador in Nottinghamshire?

The Labradors listed in Nottinghamshire today are with Doggy Dens UK Rescue at Cuckney (4) and RAIN Rescue at Misson (1); each profile shows that rescue's fee. Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Are there Labrador puppies for sale in Nottinghamshire?

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Labrador on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. The 5 Labradors listed in Nottinghamshire today are with Doggy Dens UK Rescue at Cuckney (4) and RAIN Rescue at Misson (1), and each rescue shows its own fee on the profile. For comparison, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. If you searched "labrador puppies for sale Nottinghamshire", the Labradors here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Can I get a free Labrador to a good home in Nottinghamshire, or one under £500?

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 5 Labradors listed in Nottinghamshire today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is Doggy Dens UK Rescue at Cuckney. Many rescue fees are under £500: Dogs Trust charges £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.

Are there Labrador puppies for adoption in Nottinghamshire?

Not right now: none of the 5 listed in Nottinghamshire is under a year old by its listed age. Puppies do get listed, so check back or look at the adults, whose rescues can tell you much more about their character.

Are there older Labradors for adoption in Nottinghamshire?

Yes: 2 of the 5 listed in Nottinghamshire are aged 7 or over by their listed age. Some rescues charge less for older dogs: Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over.
