The Royal Kennel Club calls the Labrador the "most popular of all pedigree breeds", and says that popularity comes from its "versatility as family companion, service dog, guide dog as well as a working gundog". It says the breed's roots are in Newfoundland, where dogs helped fishermen retrieve nets and lines; dogs brought back to England had their retrieving skills recognised by the sporting gentry, and the first breed club was founded in 1916.

With the rescue that has the dog. Today the Labradors on this page are with Animal Care Lancaster Morecambe & District (1) and Labrador Rescue (North West Area) (1). Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.
More than two hours a day, according to The Royal Kennel Club. It lists the breed as suited to a large house with a large garden. Dogs Trust calls Labradors typically high-energy. Ask the rescue how much this dog needs, as age and health make a difference.
Yes. The Royal Kennel Club lists the Labrador as a breed that sheds, with a short coat that needs grooming about once a week, and Dogs Trust rates its shedding as heavy.
It depends on the dog, not the breed. Most of the 2 Labradors listed in Lancashire today don't say either way, so ask the rescue. Where a profile says nothing, ask the rescue what age of children the dog could live with.
The Labradors listed in Lancashire today are with Animal Care Lancaster Morecambe & District at Lancaster (1) and Labrador Rescue (North West Area) at Eccleston (1); each profile shows that rescue's fee. Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland, and Blue Cross fees start from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over and £335 for dogs aged 1 to 7. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.
No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Labrador on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. The 2 Labradors listed in Lancashire today are with Animal Care Lancaster Morecambe & District at Lancaster (1) and Labrador Rescue (North West Area) at Eccleston (1), and each rescue shows its own fee on the profile. For comparison, Dogs Trust £300, and Blue Cross puppies under six months start from £525. If you searched "labrador puppies for sale Lancashire", the Labradors here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that puppies under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.
Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Of the 2 Labradors listed in Lancashire today, each shows its rescue's fee on the profile; the nearest rescue is Animal Care Lancaster Morecambe & District at Lancaster. Many rescue fees are under £500: Dogs Trust charges £300, and Blue Cross from £235 for dogs aged 8 or over. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.
Not right now: none of the 2 listed in Lancashire is under a year old by its listed age. Puppies do get listed, so check back or look at the adults, whose rescues can tell you much more about their character.
