What Ragdolls are like to live with

The Ragdoll is a large, semi-longhaired cat with blue eyes. The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF), which registers pedigree cats in the UK, says it has "an easy, laid-back temperament" and in general loves interaction with people and other animals, and that Ragdolls should be relaxed, gentle and easy to handle. They take up to four years to reach full maturity.

Where can I adopt a Ragdoll in Chelmsford?

With the rescue that has the cat. Today the Ragdolls on this page are with Holbrook Animal Rescue (1). Open a profile and apply to that rescue: each one runs its own application, home check and adoption fee. We don't rehome animals ourselves.

Do Ragdolls really go floppy when picked up?

Not as a rule. The GCCF says the floppiness that gave the breed its name is "pure hype", and that the claim Ragdolls have a low pain threshold is "positively dangerous", because Ragdolls are no different in their physical responses from any other breed. How relaxed a cat is depends a lot on how it was raised and handled.

Are Ragdolls lap cats?

Often. PDSA says Ragdolls are usually happy to jump onto your lap or into your bed to be close to you, and are unlikely to be far from you in the house. Ask the rescue how this cat likes to be handled.

Are Ragdolls good with children?

It depends on the cat, not the breed. None of the 1 Ragdolls listed in and around Chelmsford is marked by its rescue as able to live with children today. Where a profile says nothing, ask the rescue what age of children the cat could live with.
