About Maine Coon cats in Manchester

No Maine Coons were listed with the rescues near Manchester when we checked on 29 October 2026. The Maine Coon Cat Club has a welfare page where cats needing new homes are posted, updated weekly, and it had none listed that day. The club calls itself a small hobby club rather than a rehoming centre and keeps no list of would-be owners. Cats on its page come from their owners, so see the cat in its home, pay no deposit before you have met it, and check that its microchip is registered to the person giving it to you.

Strawberry Persian and Pedigree Cat Rescue also takes Maine Coons and lists its foster areas as Greater London, Essex, Central London, Worcestershire (near Worcester and Birmingham), Oswestry and the Durham and Newcastle upon Tyne area, so a Manchester adopter should expect to travel. It rehomes indoor-only cats and does not place cats where children under eight live. In England a cat must be microchipped by 20 weeks old.

What Maine Coons are like to live with

The Maine Coon is a large, semi-longhaired cat. The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF), which registers pedigree cats in the UK, calls it "the largest domestic breed to be recognised by GCCF", and says it ranks third in GCCF registrations. It says the breed is gentle and friendly as well as playful, often known as "the gentle giant", and that it is slow to mature, taking up to four years.

Maine Coons in Bolton: your questions

Tap a question to expand

How many rescue Maine Coons are available for adoption in Bolton?

As of 7 November 2026, no Maine Coons are listed for adoption in and around Bolton on LocalPetFinder. Rescues add animals all the time, so this page fills as they list them.

Do Maine Coons need a lot of grooming?

Yes, more than most short-haired cats. The GCCF says their long, thick coat needs regular grooming to prevent knots and mats, with extra care in spring when they can shed heavily. PDSA recommends daily attention.

How big do Maine Coons get?

Big. The GCCF calls the Maine Coon the largest domestic breed it recognises, gives a size range of 10 to 20 lb, and says males can weigh up to 18 to 20 lb. It says they take up to four years to reach full size.

How much does it cost to adopt a Maine Coon in Bolton?

Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Cats Protection says you can expect to pay £80 to £120 on average for an adult cat and £100 to £120 for a kitten, varying between its branches, and Blue Cross fees start from £150 for cats aged 4 months to 7 years. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Are there Maine Coon kittens for sale in Bolton?

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Maine Coon on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. Rescues rehome animals rather than selling them, usually for an adoption fee: for example, Cats Protection says £80 to £120 on average for an adult cat and £100 to £120 for a kitten. The fee usually goes towards vet work already done, such as neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations. If you searched "maine coon kittens for sale Bolton", the Maine Coons here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that kittens under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Can I get a free Maine Coon to a good home in Bolton, or one under £100?

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. At the large cat charities, fees for one cat are under £200: Cats Protection says £80 to £120 on average for an adult cat and £100 to £120 for a kitten, and Blue Cross fees start from £150 for cats aged 4 months to 7 years. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. In England, cats must be microchipped before they are 20 weeks old, so ask to see the microchip details.

Are there Maine Coon kittens for adoption in Bolton?

Not right now: no Maine Coons are listed in and around Bolton today, so there are no kittens either. Kittens do get listed, and rescues can tell you much more about an adult's character, so check back.
