About Sooty

Sooty is an approximately 18-week-old kitten who came into our care as a stray. Her background and experiences have shaped her into a rather independent and cautious little girl who is still learning to trust people. During her time at the centre, Sooty has made some progress, although she is not yet comfortable with being stroked or handled. She does enjoy human company from a distance, particularly when it involves playing with teaser toys and wands! She is also very food-motivated, which can be a great way to build a positive relationship with her. Sooty may become friendlier and more confident as she settles into a home environment, and perhaps one day even learn to enjoy some fuss and attention. However, we cannot promise this, and it is important that her future owners are happy to accept her for who she is, rather than expecting her to become a typically affectionate lap cat. Sooty is fully vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. She is now ready to find her a loving and understanding home where she can finally settle, enjoy her own space and hopefully receive all the love she deserves. Sooty will need experienced cat owners, ideally someone who has previously cared for stray, semi-feral or particularly nervous cats and understands that building trust can take considerable time and patience. An adult-only home would be ideal, preferably with a single person or a couple, as she cannot live with children. She will also benefit from a spacious home in a quiet, preferably rural location, well away from busy roads and crowded city centres. Her new owners will need to be happy to take a hands-off approach initially, allowing her to settle at her own pace, respecting her boundaries and letting her decide when and how she wants to interact. With patience and understanding, she may surprise us as her confidence grows, but the most important thing is finding someone who will love and accept her regardless of how affectionate she eventually becomes. If you feel you could offer Sooty the patient, understanding and loving home she needs, and are happy to let her settle at her own pace, we would love to hear from you.
