What Bichon Frises are like to live with
The Bichon Frise is a small white toy dog. The Royal Kennel Club describes it as a "little white Mediterranean dog with soft corkscrew curls". It says "bichon" means white dog and "frise" describes the curly coat, and that France was the country where the breed was developed, though the Bichon is thought to have existed on Tenerife as far back as the 14th century.

Breed descriptions are general. Every rescue animal is an individual, so the rescue's own assessment of the animal comes first.

How many rescue Bichon Frises are available for adoption in Scottish Borders?
As of 8 November 2026, no Bichon Frises are listed for adoption in and around Scottish Borders on LocalPetFinder. Rescues add animals all the time, so this page fills as they list them.
Do Bichon Frises shed?
Very little. The Royal Kennel Club lists the breed as not shedding, and Dogs Trust describes low shedding. The curly coat needs brushing every day instead, to stop it from matting.
How much exercise does a Bichon Frise need?
Up to 30 minutes a day, according to The Royal Kennel Club. Dogs Trust says Bichons need regular exercise and stimulation but might not manage long or strenuous walks. Ask the rescue about this dog, as age and health make a difference.
How much does it cost to adopt a Bichon Frise in Scottish Borders?
Each rescue sets its own adoption fee, and Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog in England, Wales and Scotland. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.
Are there Bichon Frise puppies for sale in Scottish Borders?
No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Bichon Frise on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. Rescues rehome animals rather than selling them, usually for an adoption fee: for example, Dogs Trust £300. The fee usually goes towards vet work already done, such as neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations. If you searched "bichon frise puppies for sale Scottish Borders", the Bichon Frises here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In Scotland, Lucy's Law has banned the third-party sale of puppies under six months since 1 September 2021.
Can I get a free Bichon Frise to a good home in Scottish Borders, or one under £500?
Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. Many rescue fees are under £500: Dogs Trust charges £300 for a puppy or adult dog. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. All dogs in the UK must be microchipped by 8 weeks old, and in England, Wales and Scotland a dog can't pass to a new keeper until it is chipped, so ask to see the microchip details.
Are there Bichon Frise puppies for adoption in Scottish Borders?
Not right now: no Bichon Frises are listed in and around Scottish Borders today, so there are no puppies either. Puppies do get listed, and rescues can tell you much more about an adult's character, so check back.
