🐾 Hi, I’m Hewey! ❤️ I’m an extremely lively 2 year old Lurcher crossbreed, believed to have a little Collie in me due to my eye colour, although most of my heritage is Lurcher! I’m a speedy boy with springs for legs and a real talent for jumping! I absolutely love leaping up at people at full speed when I get excited, and I’ve been known to jump at least 7 feet high (that’s as high as the team have seen me go so far!). Because of my impressive jumping skills, I’ll need a foster or forever home with secure fencing of 7–8 feet. I can be a little nervous in new environments, and I’m still finding my feet in rescue kennels. Kennel life really isn’t my cup of tea! I’d much rather be out exploring, stretching my legs and enjoying the great outdoors. I absolutely love spending time off lead in our secure fields with my favourite humans, and I’ve formed some really strong bonds with the animal welfare team. Once I get to know you and feel comfortable, you’ll start to see my wonderful personality! 🧡 Now, let’s talk about one of my favourite things… TOYS! 🎾 I’m a HUGE fan of toys, and when I’m out in the fields, I’ll choose a toy over a treat any day! I’ve even got my own funny little habit of collecting them. I’ll pick up toys one by one, carry them across the field and carefully gather them all into a little pile. Once I’m happy with my collection, I’ll plonk myself down right next to it, looking rather pleased with my hard work! 😂 I’m also a big fan of water, especially running taps! And if you’ve got a ball, you’ve definitely got my attention! Fetch is one of my absolute favourite games. I’ll happily bring a ball straight back and place it into your hand, ready for you to throw it again. I don’t tend to do this with my other toys, though, balls are clearly very special! One thing you should know about me is that I don’t always come with brakes! 💨😂 I’m incredibly fast, and when I’m charging around having the time of my life, I don’t always realise when it’s time to slow down! I’ve been known to almost take people’s legs out from underneath them in all my excitement, so you’ll definitely need to be steady on your feet when spending time with me! For this reason, my handlers need to be confident, physically steady and able to manage my speed and enthusiasm, especially during walks and one to one playtime. But underneath all that energy and excitement, I’ve got a really affectionate side too. I love a gentle pat or scratch, and once I trust you, I can be such a loving boy. I’ve got so much personality and so much to offer the right person. The team reckon I’m an absolutely cracking dog! ❤️ 🏡 What kind of home am I looking for? My biggest dream is to find my forever home, but an experienced foster home would be wonderful too! I’m finding kennel life quite difficult, and two walks a day just aren’t enough for a busy boy like me. I want to run, play, sniff, explore and enjoy life rather than spend so much of my time in a kennel. I’m looking for an adult-only home with someone who has experience of Collies, Lurchers or other high-energy, highly strung dogs. My future human will need to understand that I can be nervous in unfamiliar environments and that I might need a little time to settle. I don’t want to be rushed, I’d much rather build trust at my own pace and show you who I really am when I’m ready. For a foster placement, we’d ideally love someone based in the Torfaen, Newport or Monmouthshire areas , so the team can continue working closely with Gary throughout my stay. ❤️ Could you be my person? I’m a fun loving, toy collecting, super speedy lad with a big personality and an even bigger heart! I might be a little whirlwind at times, and I certainly haven’t mastered my brakes just yet, but I’ve got so much love to give and so much potential waiting to be shown. All I need is someone who understands dogs like me, can give me the time, space and guidance I need, and is willing to help me discover just how wonderful life outside the kennels can be.
