About Jasper
Jasper (Jasper Cool) arrived from our Harvel branch a few weeks ago. Jasper would really love to be cool but, unfortunately, he isn’t quite there yet. He is very shy and is fearful of traffic and stresses when in a car.
Jasper was much loved by his devoted team of staff and Volunteers but they felt he might fare better in our quieter kennel environment.
Jasper took a while to settle but in recent weeks has become more confident, he is a work in progress but we are so pleased with his progress so far.
We don’t feel any of his issues are insurmountable, we have helped many shy dogs in the past and are confident we will find the right home for him no matter how long it takes.
For now, we will continue to build his confidence by spending a lot of time with him, taking baby steps, in particular around traffic, starting with our own van and cars parked within the safety of the kennel yard allowing him time to listen and observe, never pushing him, letting him approach them at his own pace and rewarding him for doing so.
When the time comes for him to go to his forever home he may be better suited to a quiet home in a quiet location and perhaps with a confident bitch.
You will see from the photos below how well he is doing when being handled by our Volunteer Pete who he had only just met. This level of trust with a stranger would have been unthinkable just a few weeks ago. You will also see how he is alert to what is going on when being walked but he is improving all the time.
If you think you could help Jasper on his journey and offer him a home when the time comes please do get in touch and we can make arrangements for you to meet him a few times and then perhaps foster him with a view to giving him a permanent home.
