What Alaskan Malamutes are like to live with
The Royal Kennel Club calls the Alaskan Malamute "the strongest of the sled dogs". It says the breed was developed by the Mahlemut people for pulling heavy loads over long distances, and that its double coat protects it against extreme cold.

The Royal Kennel Club asks Alaskan Malamute breeders to DNA test for Alaskan Malamute polyneuropathy (AMPN) and cone degeneration (CD), to have hips and elbows scored for dysplasia, and to have eyes tested. It lists the breed's lifespan as over 10 years.
