About Lily

Introducing Lily!! Our sweet girl Lily is approx 7 years old and spent over 4 years of her life in a public shelter in Romania. These shelters are extremely overcrowded, noisy, unsafe and the workers are not kind to the dogs. Can you imagine spending over half of your short life in such a horrific enviroment? Now that we've got to know Lily, and her gentle temperament, our heart breaks her for even more, knowing that she was overlooked and not cared about for such a long time :( Lily can be very shy and submissive when she first meets you, with men in particular we have seen her hide away into bushes trying to make herself as small as possible to minimise her risk of being hurt. She is slowly starting to learn that she is safe and loved with us at Oakwood and warms up to females particularly quickly, with males she's just going to take a little longer to trust, after everything she has been through in her life, this is completely understandable, they will just need to show kindess and patience [and have chicken and ham on demand] and we're sure she'll get there in no time. Lily will happily be in the presence of other dogs and shows no reactivity however, in her own space, she will guard food and other items from dogs such as the sofa. She has never shown any guarding traits towards humans, only dogs and we need to understand that this is likely the only way that she survived over 4 years in a Romanian shelter. She is still undergoing assessments regarding this and the guarding seems to be much less, she's recently been sharing a larger room with our 1 y/o bouncy boy Rupert who she absolutely loves and there have been no issues seen so far. Due to stress and whilst settling into a new home, guarding issues will likely be something that you'll need to work through, especially as she settles in. She's never had luxuries before and she it's very possible these behaviours will trigger again until she learns she has no need to protect anything from the other dog[s]. Lily has been cat tested and was great, kind and gentle. Children: 14+ [Calm and mature]. Other dogs: Yes, based on the right match [more info in bio]. Cats: Yes.
